The Legend of Runersia is a superb strategy game that scales well on PC. After its first patch, almost all my issues with the port were resolved, and it feels great to play even on Steam Deck. Having enjoyed it recently on Switch and previously on PS4, I'm glad to see Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia get even more features in its Steam release making it the best version of the game. Hopefully the few other PC-specific issues can be resolved in future updates.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia delivers an entertaining world and a story full of diverse and vibrant characters, all built atop competent world-conquering strategy. The complexity may make it a bit less approachable to genre newcomers, but strategy buffs and longtime Brigandine fans need look no further.

Approached purely as a strategy game, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia may seem a little simplistic. But then, it’s not trying to be the next Europa Universalis, and what it lacks in systemic complexity it makes up for in the clever interplay between grand strategy and its tactical RPG side. Along with an intriguing world and captivating stories to discover, that combination makes for a fantastic experience.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia does a great job at combining empire management with turn-based combat, making you feel like you are responsible for your nation’s performance during the war. Smooth gameplay makes the game feel seamless, providing a comfortable experience. While the story feels like a missed opportunity and the game’s mechanics aren’t the best for aggressive players, it is still a solid turn-based strategy experience that will put your tactical skills to the test.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is a good addition to a genre that is gaining popularity. While it may lack the accessibility or even the swifter pace of other titles, it still manages to deliver a strategy roleplaying experience that is largely good on all fronts, supported by six distinct kingdoms and storylines. As long as you can accept that it might feel repetitive in a long game, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia is an experience worth trying out.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia offers an intriguing point of entry with a story told from many different perspectives, a ton of gameplay over its many campaigns, and a ton of options to strategize and plan out your upcoming attacks. I may wish the attacks themselves were more exciting or that the story had more payoff, but those who are fans of both traditional strategy RPGs and more PC style strategy titles will still find this interesting hybrid worth a look.

Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia feels a little antiquated, nailing the fundamentals of the tactics genre but leaving a lot to be desired.
