Uncover the chilling mysteries of this RPG-investigation game, descending deep into a world of cosmic horrors, creeping madness, and shrouded Old Gods within Lovecraft's iconic universe.

The Cthulhu Mythos has been fascinating audiences for generations, growing to become one of the largest shared universes ever envisioned and giving birth to countless stories, novels, movies, tabletop and videogames since the original publication of H.P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu. Adaptions and references have formed a widespread legacy stretching back to the very beginning of the 20th century, latching on to the key fear of the human psyche: that of the unknown. Now, Call of Cthulhu will bring the mythos to life like never before, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

In this world, nothing is as it seems. Sanity is an irregular bedfellow, all too often replaced by the whisperings in the dark. Strange creatures, weird science, and shadowy cults dominate the Cthulhu Mythos, intent on realizing their mad schemes to bring about the end of everything. Your mind will suffer -- balancing a razor-thin line between sanity and madness, your senses will be disrupted until you question the reality of everything around you. Trust no one. Creeping shadows hide lurking figures... and all the while, the Great Dreamer prepares for his awakening.

Call of Cthulhu is a dark ride through a mad, cosmic horror nightmare with a paranormal detective story as your vehicle. Occasionally poor level and encounter design can make the eerily atmospheric road a little bumpy, but the engaging mystery and an intriguing utilization of RPG mechanics make it one of the more enjoyable Lovecraftian games in years.

Heavily atmospheric, this dark descent into madness and ruin, speaks directly to the heart of Lovecraft devotees. A narrative that embraces the core of true cosmic horror.

Call of Cthulhu has a lot of promising features, but it should have stayed just a detective game. The horror elements are not implemented well and they seem misplaced.

When all's said and done, there's a clunkiness to the pacing, plot and gameplay that relegates Call of Cthulhu to the second division.

Most Lovecraft fans, or those who are just on the lookout for a good occult mystery thriller, will enjoy Call of Cthulhu, but that doesn't mean that they won't be disappointed as well. Cyanide Studio has wrapped an interesting, and engrossing storyline, with a fittingly oppressive feel, but the actual gameplay part tastes like a half-fried, unsalted octopus *wink-wink-nudge-nudge*

The game tends to dole out the narratively driven elements of Edward’s sleuthing in frustrating half measures, before suddenly blooming into a straight-up survival-horror experience in its second half.

Cyanide’s Lovecraftian outing promises an immersive world of cosmic horror and consequences but instead delivers a clunky detective adventure that is both formless and repetitive.

Very atmospheric game. For lovers of creativity Lovecraft the most it. The graphics are not at an ideal level, but for me this is not the main thing.

I'm satisfied: the story is intriguing, able to respect the original writing. I loved the "investigate+explore+stealth" gameplay. The only weak part is the action moment. However, a very good Lovecraftian game. Recommended for "Lovecraft & Chaosium fans". Expand

"What started out as a promising, unnerving recreation of a tabletop RPG became a rushed, unfocused mess racing to the finish line that leaves players’ input almost meaningless. Call of Cthulhu is a dressed-up horror walking simulator that pitched itself on misleading terms, bungling its story while being light on gameplay or its RPG roots."
To the point. Misleading title, no real input from the player, but hey, you can walk!
Someone comment on price, but I don't think it's developer fault, more like publisher's, and I don't want to FOCUS on that (pun intended).
I don't like liars, I've never returned to No Man's Sky and I won't. Same here, there is a lot of misleading pieces of information and I feel like someone lied to me about this game. Maybe I just imagined something more watching the trailers, I don't know. But to be honest, decide for yourself. Watch first 1 hour on youtube and buy if you must. I would rather watch it than play it because it's one of these games.

And what do you do for most of the time? You walk. From point A to point B. B to C, and so on. Some greedy bastards decided to triple the price of a simple walking simulator with Lovecraft franchise in the background. Don't you even listen to this 10/10 fake reviews, it's not a masterpiece. It would be 7/10 game with a decent price. You know what you can buy with 45$? Let's see... A quadrocopter with 1080P 5.0MP Camera Selfie drone. Or this game. It's just a bad deal and the developer should react.
Please, while playing this game prepare a timer and every one hour place 6,50$ on the table. When you are done send me a message how long you endured. It's just painful to watch a mediocre game with good marketing to be praised by anybody. Stop it. Don't buy it. Find something better.

A game not without defects, but with a fantastic atmosphere... which in this genre/type of game is essentially everything.

I think it captures perfectly the feeling of the Lovecraft stories. This is a double edged sword, though: while it will please the writer's fans, it will disappoint people expecting linearity and logic, and possibly, "generic horror" fans.

Another thing to consider is that the game is just a bit more than a walking simulator; this is also not everybody's cup of tea.

    Regarding the defects:

    - mediocre 3D engine; stutters a lot, independently of the graphic settings; capable of dipping from 140 frames to 30 in the same room
    - the character animations are sometimes terrible
    - some chapters (and characters) are just fillers
    - the RPG part is an afterthought; it gives the impression that changes little or nothing, at least, to the casual user

All in all, as a fan of Lovecraft, I'm very happy, since it's hard to find good games/movies based on his writings.
