If you want to test your system and see just how much power you can put out (within the confines of a CPU limited game engine), then this will still show you what your rig is capable of. If you want a game that is perhaps the closest you can get to the opening fire fight of Predator (with similar otherworldly interference taking over) then this is without doubt a game you should grab! If you’ve played it before but don’t know where you put your CD-ROM or even your DVD copy of the game, this might be a good excuse to shell out for a new digital version. Even if you just want a fun sci-fi action first person shooter with some fun future tech and some lovely visuals… grab a copy!

Crysis Remastered lives up to its name by putting even the most modern and performing hardware under pressure. All in all, the graphical makeover is pretty competent, despite some smudges here and there.

Now Crytek has jumped onto the remaster train and is stepping into the trap it has built for itself: To release a new edition of a 13-year-old game in 2020, which again needs a really expensive PC for full graphics power, is a crazy idea.

It still is a great shooter, but it undoubtedly shows its age. The graphical improvements are just anecdotic.

I quite enjoyed the time I spent with Crysis Remastered. The game does hold up well to this day however the performance issues and the frustrating AI really hindered my enjoyment.

You have to be willing to forgive quite a bit to enjoy Crysis Remastered. Questionable enemy AI is bad enough, but a reduction in content is baffling, and the effort feels incomplete because of it. The extra lighting is nice, but the spotty performance is the real sore spot, as it ensures that a polished and well-performing version of the game is simply unattainable. Unless you have issues trying to run the original on your system or absolutely need controller support, you're probably better off skipping this until a better, proper remaster comes along.

Crysis Remastered isn’t the game we wanted it to be. It’s still fun to play and the many tweaks and additions to the graphics look insane… most of the time. Sadly, the fancy new raytraced illumination is useful only in some situations, while other key moments of the campaign are watered down. The PC version itself isn’t great either: it gnaws a single thread on your processor and faces common problems like bugs, crashes and more.

Crysis Remastered is disapointing. It has improved visuals over the original but:

    - It lacks the optimization -such as CPU bottleneck-,
    - No gameplay improvements -such as gunplay-,
    - Game has visual glitches and bugs,
    - Same old menus, no makeup,
    - A direct port from Xbox360 version.
    - Misses some of the features like manual save and nano suit shortcuts, removed chapter etc.

Overall game is still fun to play but looks like Crytek couldn't master of this "remaster". Unfortunately it doesn't worth your money and time. If Crytek keeps up like this, they gonna bankrupt in no time...

First of all, I highly recommend watching Digital Foundry's tech analysis/review of this game. I'll be repeating quite a few of the thingsFirst of all, I highly recommend watching Digital Foundry's tech analysis/review of this game. I'll be repeating quite a few of the things they said there. First off, I'm running on a 9700k overclocked at 4.9 ghz, RTX 2070 Super overclocked, DDR4 Ram overclocked at 3000 mhz, and an SSD. The current CPUs on the market are, let's face it, designed for the 8th generation of video games, and the RTX 30 cards are being sold by scalpers on eBay for $2000. So in 6 months or so when RTX 30 cards are available without shelling out massive amounts of money to scalpers, and CPUs come out that will be able to surpass the CPUs in the Xbox Series X, this game will run a lot better. And it's true that in less than a year my current PC is going to look like absolute garbage because the 9th generation of video games starts in a few months. However, this doesn't change the fact that the game should be running better on my PC than it currently is.

Crysis was designed for single core CPUs and instead of increasing the clock speeds of single core CPUs over time like people thought would happen when development on the game began, we went to multicore CPUs running at similar clock speeds. The result of this is that every CPU generation has only slightly increased the frame-rate of Crysis and the game can still drop to less than 40 fps even on a 10900k. However, the stripped down console versions of Crysis were able to take advantage of multiple CPU cores, so EA Games took this version of the game which had a lot of things taken out and a dumbed down A.I., threw a new coat of paint on it, and released the game as a "remaster". So basically some things are better, but other disadvantages are carried over from the console versions.

While the game isn't as poorly CPU optimized as the original, it's still pretty bad. One of the biggest disadvantages of the original was the draw distance and pop-in--and medium settings on this game is basically the same as the original Crysis. But if you turn the three settings that effect pop-in up to high, even the fastest CPU on the market currently isn't able to maintain a solid 60 fps in even 720p. Yes, the i9 10900k is a CPU from the 8th generation of video games and will be obsolete soon, but the game in it's current state looks bad. On my current build I was able to put these settings on medium and every thing else on max and still maintain 60 fps, and the game did look quite good, but the poor world detail really affected the experience.

Bizarrely, whereas higher resolutions are mostly handled by the GPU, in Crysis Remastered they are handled by the CPU. I have never heard of this being the case in a game. So basically in most games if your CPU can handle the high frame-rates in lower resolutions, your GPU can use all of it's power to bump up the resolution. In layman's terms, you're not going to get any resolutions higher than 1080p and still be able to maintain 60 fps in Crysis. At least, though, you have tons of unused GPU power to put into the ray-tracing. Strangely, the ray-tracing is software ray-tracing, and doesn't take advantage of RTX cards. So non-RTX gpus and even the consoles can use the ray-tracing. While this is an impressive feat, it's more demanding than normal ray-tracing.

You know what, though, I could have forgiven the poor optimization, since new hardware will be out soon. What I can't forgive is the gameplay. The problem with old stealth games is the CPUs of the time weren't powerful enough to really handle the A.I. necessary to make them feel like modern stealth games. Metal Gear Solid got around this by basically being a 2D game with a top-down view and these games still hold up pretty well today. However, Crysis's stealth was already showing its age, and that's being generous, and when you add in the comically braindead A.I. of this "remaster", the game is just no longer fun, which is the most important thing of a game. This might lead to an entertaining Video Game Dunkey video, but it doesn't make for an entertaining game. I started the game again, and remembered that trying to kill or knockout all the enemies doesn't work particularly well. The most effective strategy in Crysis is usually to just slowly sneak past enemies in stealth mode since the game is semi-open world, or just run away from enemies in speed mode. I have to say, I re-played Far Cry a few months ago and while the stealth in Far Cry mostly involves exploiting the broken mechanics to kill enemies, at the end of the day it was actually pretty fun, which is more than what I can say for Crysis Remastered.

EA Games had honestly been doing things right with Command and Conquer Remastered, Burnout Paradise Remastered on the Switch, and heck, even the console versions of Crysis Remastered are impressive achievements. However, Crysis Remastered on PC is the usual garbage we expect from EA.

Oh, and to add salt to the wound, it's an Epic Games Store exclusive.
