Darkest Dungeon 2 does a lot different than its predecessor, but the most important trait remains: you will love the game - or hate it. [Early Access Review]

A worthy successor to the first part. The game offers more depth in the right places, but leaves out unimportant facets. [Early Access Score = 80]
  3. In the transferral to true roguelike, Darkest Dungeon 2 has got a little lost in the woods. But from what I've glimpsed through the trees, it'll be a handsome coach when it finally arrives, done and dusky. I'll happily hop aboard then. [Early Access Review]

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is in a very good direction and the progression system is actually very fun, and for those that cant read or find this game "too hard" it becomes easier actually has you level up and finish the story lines for the abilities and get new heroes.
At the beginning yes the stress system is overwhelming because you lack the tools to play it the way you want, but the game is meant to be played this way i mean the narrator even says so.
Stop hating on games for random bs reasons we have so few games in the market that are as immersive and fun too play as this one.

Very strong contender for a sequel. I like that they changed the way the game plays, otherwise it would be just a remaster of an old game.Very strong contender for a sequel. I like that they changed the way the game plays, otherwise it would be just a remaster of an old game. Giving a couple points above because of an Early Access discount
Pros: Satisfying and great visuals, great desicion for character interactions, mostly better new mechanics, character stories are great!
Cons: inability to sell relics, most of the stuff you carry is trash that gets discarded. Some upgrade system for relics, or combining them would we welcome, since its more of a roguelike. Also character interactions "chances and types" need some retweaking, since you either have to pick one of the 2 reliable stress relieving characters or sink into despair (although it is still manageable)

Overall I can see where other people are coming from, but I still have fun and will prob take a pause at the game after I got max profile level and unlocked all character skills.

For those who are saying that game is too hard - I got first run win

I was a huge fan of DD1, so I was very excited to try DD2. I bought and played it for about 2 hours today and....

...it was so bad I don't think I'll ever play it again.

I don't even know where to start - there's so much wrong with the game. The feel of the game is totally off. The animations are no longer individual comic-book style cells. Instead now you have smooth animations. They feel extremely generic. The game has no soul.

The majority of your time spent playing DD2 is stuck in this horrible stagecoach driving mode. Imagine a bad racing game from the early 2000's. That's pretty much what it feels like only with slightly worse graphics and worse handling. Why is there car driving in a DD game? WTF is this even? It's sooooo horribly bad! If it was like a brief 30 second little blip of gameplay, maybe it would be tolerable, but this is what you do for the MAJORITY of your time in the game! It's not DD2, it's stagecoach driver simulator.

So the stagecoach driving part was awful, but the rest of the game is good right? WRONG. The basic monster battles are awful. How did they get this wrong?

I could just type for hours. I was bombarded with all of these unskippable tutorial screens. There are hundreds of them. Each has paragraphs of text. What? WHY? Can't you just let me play the game? DD1 was so intuitive they didn't need tutorials. If anything, a tiny bubble popped up saying "ya, poison does damage each round" then the bubble disappeared. In DD2 there are lengthy unskippable paragraphs of tutorial text for EVERYTHING. It's just so so so very painfully bad.

    I refunded this game.

I'm very disappointed, after a while it's boring ... no variation ... It's a waste of time compared to the original game

Баланса нету даже близко, всё на рандоме. От старой доброй DD ничего не осталось. Игра сырая и очень очень хуевая. Expand

I have tried to like the game, but its bad. The whole concept of riding with the wagon is tragic. Its completely different game. Everything is wrong.
I thought it will be like the first DK but without restriction of the Hamlet with the side scrolling movement and the beatiful resting at the fireplace in the dark. Not interested anymore. Back to DK1

The devs sold their souls to epic all so that they could sit around and BS new ideas that they had no reason to think would work, then usedThe devs sold their souls to epic all so that they could sit around and BS new ideas that they had no reason to think would work, then used name recognition to sell what is at best a spin-off, and at worst a completely different (and far worse) game compared to its predecessor.

Red Hook removed 90% of what made the original game great, including base building, character development, attachment to heroes, slow and steady progression, etc... and filled the gaps with terribly executed Slay The Spire style gameplay elements which result in the worst of both worlds. Each run only lasts 4-5 hours so you have no time to get attached to or feel real investment in your characters/runs, but at the same time, the game plays so slowly that each runs feels like a slog to actually persevere through.

Personally I knew this game was headed for the **** from the moment the first 3D trailer came out. They abandoned everything that made the original game a success. No unique 2D art style, no Steam early access, no lengthy campaign, no attachment to heroes, there will almost assuredly be less mods due to the game design making new classes/enemies far more complex to add in and not seem out of place, less emphasis on healing/stress reduction because their motto is just "have a good run or get **** less strategy/optimization/prep and more focus on dumb RNG events...

This game is a shame and a disgrace to everything that made Darkest Dungeon 1 great.
