  • Summary: Control a car full of jerks as they explore cities, recruit weird people, rescue dogs, argue with each other, and face gigantic swarms of slow zombies. Randomly generated for a new story and rare events every time you play.

It can be too harsh for its own good, and folks who are tired of roguelikes will struggle to embrace that part of the design, but it's still one of the better road-trip games I've played thanks to its cheerful personality, amusing writing, and all-around charm.

Throw some supplies into a duffle bag, find a map to Canada, and hop in the van folks, because the zombie masses of Death Road to Canada are coming for you, and getting eaten alive was never so much fun.

The randomness of Death Road to Canada may put off some, the difficulty can spike instantly and whilst you could have done everything right up until this point, the game is unforgiving in its punishment and to some that may seem incredibly frustrating. Though for many this game will prove to be a game that takes up a lot of time with its replayability, remembering to embrace the randomness and the games jittering pace.

It doesn’t exactly crack open the full literary potential of randomly-generated story beats, but it does use it to an enjoyable-enough cutesy effect, which is pages more than most flarfy corpses have ever achieved.

Death Road to Canada offers an interesting dose of action, combined with a text adventure and a survival game. Unfortunately, after some time it becomes boring and the lack of interesting content kills all the fun.

Graphics: The art-style isn't anything special, but the filter is really what makes the game pop, it looks like you're playing an 80's VHSGraphics: The art-style isn't anything special, but the filter is really what makes the game pop, it looks like you're playing an 80's VHS movie
Game-play: It's an RNG story based survival game where every single play-through is completely different, aside from a few reoccurring characters
Music: The music is excellent, it sorta sounds like a mixture of 90's games and modern game music

Actually, this is not a game - more like a piece of art.

Death Road to Canada is a game I would highly recommend if you think it's the sort of game you would like. The premise is that your band ofDeath Road to Canada is a game I would highly recommend if you think it's the sort of game you would like. The premise is that your band of misfit characters are attempting to drive from Florida to Canada, the last surviving nation after a zombie apocalypse. It's important to take note that the game is indeed a rouge-like, in that once your run is over that's it, you have to start the trip to Canada again. Of course, there are points you'll accumulate along the way that will persist beyond your premature rest stops on the death road, which can be used to buy upgrades to characters and other situations. Also, there is some RNG for roadside events, however it's easily predictable and risk can be measured once you've played for a while. If you can stand those factors, then consider these positives.
The game play itself is all right, fairly unique but nothing too special. Where Death Road really shines is its writing. If you have a silly sense of humor like mine, the game can be absolutely hilarious thanks to all the random events you'll encounter on your road trip. You'll encounter wacky situations like finding discontinued gym equipment that can beef up your characters, at the cost of being unregulated and highly dangerous, or finding one of the last rolls of toilet paper in the world, which is a much bigger deal than it may seem. The characters are the main draw of the game for me. You can make about any character you want with the character creation, and assign them a wide variety of traits and sub traits. This has led me to many strange situations, such as having Gordon Ramsay yell at Super Mario for suggesting that Ramsay keep both hands on the steering wheel, instead of gunning down zombies while driving. There are also pre-made rare characters you can meet such as The Last Body Builder, or L!nk, a completely original green hated elf character. The game play loop has enough variety in events, randomly generated maps, and characters to be entertaining for a very long time. Additionally, couch co-op is supported, and the adventure only becomes more fun with friends to add to the chaos.
    Pros:
The gameplay loop is very addictive, music is fantastic, plenty of unlocks and variety, entertaining humor, and lots of game modes.
    Cons:
Harder game modes can be unfair, the game can be very difficult at first, there is some randomness involved in places.
Overall, great game, honestly would have been happy to pay more for it due to the quality.

In my opinion, the game shines in it's soundtrack the most, it's near perfect, though i can see why people can be bored or rage, but overallIn my opinion, the game shines in it's soundtrack the most, it's near perfect, though i can see why people can be bored or rage, but overall this game has very good 90's vibe, and is surprisingly in-depth for what it is. RNG makes for a heavy influence in all areas of the game, but if you're clever and quick on your feet you can sway things in your favor. (Protip: recruit and send a dog to scavenge. They're hard to catch!)

Charming music, graphics and humor, a VERY challenging combat system and difficulty curve, and the option to make a bunch of prefab characters based on friends or celebrities that scratches a vaguely Sims-like itch. Be sure to bone up on your kiting skills if you want to survive!
