  1. Tracks are what makes Resurrection so memorable. It’s hard to forget battles on the decaying streets of once-beautiful cities. Forgotten, overgrown San Diego, rainy Bangkok, mysterious Prague, snowbound Moscow...These places look fantastic.

This is a game that has a definite Jekyll and Hyde personality that doesn't make it a horrible game, but it doesn't make it a great one, either.

Surprisingly a good action racing game that excels in graphics, atmosphere and plenty of enjoyable tracks. All fun is gone when you realize that the makers forget to add a multiplayer option. [Apr 2009]

Hard to recommend, as it doesn't really do anything especially well. [Aug 2009, p.79]
  5. This car combat racing game provides some high speed fun, but numerous frustrations and a lack of online play put the brakes on.
  6. Death Track: Resurrection is an outdated, dismal driving experience that does nothing but embarrass the combat racing genre.

The whole thing is an abomination. [Aug 2009, p.73]

Its definitely not the worst vehicular combat game, however it falls very short compared to other titles. The best way to describe it is that its one of the most schizophrenic game I've ever played.

Lets address the elephant in the room: the graphics & artstyle. People have **** about them but I don't see a problem with them. Sure, the game is old, so the graphics are dated, but the color palette is not the worst, as even drab environment will have brighter, neon colors.

The biggest problem is just there is way too much **** The HUD is clustered with a ton of stuck ranging from picked up powerups, point values, and AI names. The environment themselves are way too busy, with shortcuts you have to open by shooting props, buildings to shoot for some reason and got damn laser drones that add nothing of value other than being annoying ****s. There is also a lot of surround scenery, powerups and environmental details that may seem they won't get in the way, but they do. Billboards, underpasses, etc are incredibly annoying, and make it so hard to see. I swear I can't even shoot at some of the buildings because they are blocked by objects, and when my weapon finally locks on, its too late!

The game has that very arcade/mobile type of brainless gameplay where all you have to worry about is driving while weapons automatically lock onto targets. This also applies to enemies as well, so they can end up getting free shots as you can't avoid them. Its not fun, and is very frustrating to play against.

The physics also kinda suck. I can't seem to get a good feel for vehicle handling, which feels both understeery and oversteery at the same time. Plus, cars don't collide really well, and going off a jump wrong can send you crashing, and landing awkwardly.

Sound design is alright. In game sounds are a bit muted, and plenty of weapons just don't have that 'kick' because they sound incredibly weak. However, the soundtrack is kinda nice. Its was a soundtrack made specifically for this game, and its very decent. There is some songs that I can pass on, but a few are some good bangers. I especially love the menu music, it just feels right.

Oh, how can I forget, the AI difficulty in this game is crazy. Even on low difficulty, they are very hard. Its like impossible to win races on higher difficulties. They rubber band so hard No care was put into balancing the AI.

If you try running the game over 60FPS, you'll find that the nitro is completely broken. Not only does it not even work properly, the visuals also glitch out, with possible the worst distorted sound, ever. The game also refused to shut down properly as well, forcing me to go into Task Manager to end the process.

Now, you might have seen that a couple of years later, a PS3 version was released. Even though the PS3 version has a DLC car and has split screen & online multiplayer, avoid it at all costs. It has worse physics, horrendous controls, and even worse sound design. So if you are going to get this game, you might as well stick with the PC version.

Overall, while Death Track: Resurrection is not the worst vehicular combat game I've ever played, its still not a fun experience that is just frustrating and boring. This will be another vehicular combat game that you should avoid.

I played the original Death Track in the 90's, and loved it. I still have and play games Road Wars on the system I'm typing this on. SeeingI played the original Death Track in the 90's, and loved it. I still have and play games Road Wars on the system I'm typing this on. Seeing an updated Death Track was awesome news to me.

The graphics are beautiful, and the concept of blowing up targets alongside the track for bonus credits was great. Unfortunately, you HAVE to make the top 3 cars to progress from the first track and to keep the money that you make on your first race. Combined with the fact that the AI drives WAY too well even on the "LOW" difficulty setting and it is difficult to see the turns and indestructible columns and fences in the track, and you will find yourself stuck at the first level forever. Nice try, but being unable to advance and unlock anything more after a couple of hours trying just isn't fun, no matter how pretty the graphics are.

Oh, and it would have been nice to customize your car a bit at first.

FWIW, I do recommend Road Wars in the genre of combat racing games.
