From the distinct, sprawling domains of your three primary marks, to the adorably avian way your crow tilts and juts their head around, the game never misses a moment to delight you with some new wonder, and just when you think it’s run out of surprises; whether it’s a new tune, a beautiful vignette, or a quiet moment of empathy, it’s always got something else tucked underneath its wing.

Death’s Door is one of the best games released this year and will certainly be a game-of-the-year contender by the time 2021 wraps up.

Death's Door finds the sweet spot between an enjoyable and challenging experience. The smooth and fun combat was supplemented with fun puzzles and many secrets, all packaged in an adorable cartoonish art style.

This tremendously excellent Death's Door is a well-polished action/adventure hybrid that is worth your attention.

A distinctive twist on an established formula, and a remarkable accomplishment for such a small team. Its subject matter might seem like serious business, but this game about death feels thrillingly alive. [Issue#362, p.112]

Death's Door is one of the indie surprises of the year. Very well designed, melancholic and challenging, without being difficult. It knows how to transfer the essence of games like Dark Souls and Zelda in a delicious isometric perspective, with well-designed puzzles and a very well measured combat. Acid Nerve has done its homework.

The setting is intriguing, but the story is bland. Open world promises exploration, but there is nothing to find. The combat has all the beats – but it just isn’t interesting. [Issue#254, p.68]

Just the perfect level of difficulty to punish you for mistiming and mistakes, but not to make you walk away in disgust. The humour throughout is charming too. An absolute gem of a game. Expand

Is it exactlyI've been looking for a new game to fill void of games like Hollow Knight and Ori, and this was exactly what I was looking for. Is it exactly like either of those games, no it's unique and stands on its own but its almost like they had a top-down view baby. Like HK and Ori, its incredibly polished for an indie game, with a stunning visual style, great music, fun characters and tight, satisfying movement and combat.
The story is solid and intriguing without it being too store or exposition heavy. The enemy variety is decent, the bosses were all fun and unique as was the area design. Overall the difficulty level was good for me, those looking for a harder challenge might be disappointed though. There were lots of hidden secrets to find and some puzzles but none were too crazy hard, plus the game gives you hints for the more important hidden locations.
Critiques would be that the new weapons you pick up weren't all that enticing and i think most people will likely stick mostly to the sword. A map system might have been nice but for the most part, i didn't feel i needed one too much. Its also a relatively short game, depending on skill level, whether you use guides at all and completion % and whether you go for the second ending I think most players can probably get at least 1 ending in between 10-20ish hours and at least for me I'm not sure it will have that much replayability. That being said every hour I did have in the game was fantastic so I absolutely think its still great value.

The art style is adorable, the gameplay is tight and fun, the length is just long enough, and the musical score....the ost perfectly suits the environments of the game. It won't be for everyone, as the combat is tight but simple. The story is one of death & capitalism. Play this game! Expand
