The introduction of classes, along with the reworking of the skill and weapon systems makes the game accessible to players of other modern shooters, but the lack of new content and the decision to not port over existing characters gives veterans little incentive to leave their old world behind.

Yes, there is a definite cash-grab feeling in Defiance 2050, but there is also plenty of game to explore, and it won’t require the player to drop hundreds just to get there. The large open world, vast number of quests, and skill trees with a decent set of options gives players plenty to do. The co-operative nature of Defiance 2050 encourages teamwork, and while some parts feel repetitive in terms of quest content, overall it makes a pretty good entry as a free-to-play title.

Trion Worlds’ reimagined Defiance does little to fix the crippled MMO and instead, uses the opportunity to try and capture a new audience with the same bland experience of yesteryear. Defiance 2050 has nothing to leverage but its free-to-play status, nothing to separate itself from the competition, and nothing of quality for new players to latch onto.

Five years after original launch the developers publish the same game, adding new microtransactions and cutting content. Defiance 2050 is an example of business practices that should be firmly defied. [13/2018, p.87]

    Defiance 2050
    decently enjoyable busy work
Defiance 2050 is a free to play 3rd person shooter open world mmo co op game, you start creating your ark hunter though your choice are limited, and next thing you know you’ve crash landed and you run around a giant map completing quests… this is the game, there is story here though not a very interesting story..
This is really just a 3rd person free to play borderlands meets destiny meets an indie budget.. theres a notticable lack of polish in this game overall… its unstable, it will get shakey at times, I ran into pelnt of mission bugs, my character was frozen into annimations.. a few server issues, but I can look past all of this and see this game for what it is, and that is a bunch of busy work…
I cant imagine this is a game youre going to really sit down and be glued to for more than a few days, but I can see this game as filler in between waiting for other games, something to do while youre bored… hop in, kill some enemies with friends, clear some missions…
because despite the lack of polish or interesting story, or even interesting world to explore, this game still managaes to have an addictive hook, the shooting is fun, theres loot to be found and earned from completing missions and off of random enemies, I just genuinely had fun running around the giant open world and just completing what was ever thrown at me even though again none of it is interesting..
I cant quite put my finger one why..
maybe it is because the world feels alive thanks to it being shared.. where you going to a mission doesn’t disconnect you from everyone and loads you in.. no… if you go to a mission area and someone is already there trying to complet it themselves.. you now are co op partners completing it together, youre able to revive, but if you die you aren’t punished by losing progress, you can hop back in,
Each class that’s choses at the start does have its own special abilitites on a cool down, and more abilities and perks can be unlocked as you level up, theres also competitive modes here, team deathmatch and domination.. but the maps are awful.. and the balance of the health, shields, weapons, and abilities just don’t translate well here.. its not fun at all
so I didn’t stick around playing with competitive…
Defiance 2050 is again a free to play game so theres nothing to lose in checking I out,
I got my fill of the game after 2 days
but it surprised me, it may surprise you as well
    I give Defiance 2050
    a 6/10

I chose to take a break from Defiance during the valor event intentionally as to be able to look at 2050 with fresh eyes. However they took much of what worked for Defiance and trashed it.

RNG is still as bad or worse than the original Defiance and you cannot purchase individual basic scopes and other mods for your weaponry now. It is as if you walk up to to a kiosk selling such things and they have no idea what their inventory is (guessing the person in charge of the changes has never table topped rpg'ed or played a decent MMO before) and as a result you get to look forward to many mods of the same type before actually completely having all mods in your weapon. This however could be fixed by using RNG plus weapon mod type boxes.

In addition to this spikes and med kits seem to be a thing of the past,so you are forced to group if you want the abilities of med kits or spikes (which may be good for clans, not so good for someone who wants to casually play as an ark hunter).

The lag issue is still a thing at a level similar to when the original Defiance was claiming they were being DDoSed.

Contracts and the like are now Ego 50 (which means level 50) and leveling ego seems to be much slower. Story line seems to open more slowly.

On the plus side, damage seems to have been nerfed at lower levels (I have only been casually playing since official launch and am at level 15) for those who enjoy a more difficult game. Adding an ammunition slot (rather than just magazine) allows you to now choose the extra ability set in your weapon (rather than magazine). Arkfalls now drop a box that can be looted (similar to the summoned arkfalls) however they do cost arkshards and they seem to be far and few between until you can do the daily contracts.

In conclusion all I can say is it has its pluses and minuses for a game that is in the first week of relaunch. If they cannot fix the lag issue,if they cannot fix their vendor system or their RNG the game will fail, especially with the damage nerf, adding a timer to how often you can use grenades, the lack of stims (including first aid kits) and spikes forcing people to group. On the plus side if they add new content (in addition to fixing the above issues) by opening up other parts of California and then slowly the rest of the continent, they could have a good game on their hands.

Trion has dropped the ball big time. It is literally just a re skin of an old game, which by the way is great. The re skin is just used to entice new and old players to replay and buy things all over again. I would give this game negative points if possible. Expand

Same bugs, same quests, same map, same game as legacy Defiance, with a little changes... This game is a shame!

I think this company should be sued. They're offering the same game with the same content with minor skill difference.
Basically they screwed over the original buyers of the first game who had non-transferable micro-transaction assets.
So many people lost hundreds of dollars.
The only thing they haven't done yet is shut down the servers for the first version of the game as a kick in the mouth of the veterans.
