As someone who wasn't too familiar with either the anime or the manga for Demon Slayer, I had a lot of fun with this game. I will probably even watch the anime now to see what happens next. One might think that the game had done its job. But does it offer enough to entice newbies who aren't playing it for a test to pay full price instead of just watching the anime? I do not think so. If you are a fan of Demon Slayer and fighting games, you will love this game. But if you are looking for an introduction to the world of Demon Slayer like me, you should at least wait for a discount.

  1. Ultimately Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles doesn’t really offer a lot outside of watching characters beat the shit out of each other with various flashy moves, but I guess that was always the point. Although the playable roster is feeling the distinct lack of demons right now, there’s a lot to enjoy from the characters who are there, delivering on the promise of a power fantasy of Gotouge’s manga epic. For those steeped in knowledge of that manga (or Ufotable’s anime adaptation), The Hinokami Chronicles offers a great little opportunity to spend some more time with the heroes and stories we’ve loved for years.

True to the anime the game offers some great visuals and story mode. The story mode and graphic style is faithful to the show as is theTrue to the anime the game offers some great visuals and story mode. The story mode and graphic style is faithful to the show as is the soundtrack!

What is really surprising (in a good way) is the inclusion of official soundtrack from the anime and the Mugen Train movie. An inspired decision for sure though I wish you could select tracks for use in the Vs mode.

Where this game perhaps lets people down is...lack of content. Post completion of story mode there isnt really much to do and the Vs mode is only fun for so long. There was an opportunity for a survival mode or something where you could either battle all the demons or be a demon and battle all the slayers but they didnt add this for whatever reason. This game is heavily based on the ninja storm series but has cut out some of the customization. Whether its being able to change cut-in finishes or remove them completely or being able to swap out your special techniques they just didnt bother to add this to the game.

I have no interest in online so have nothing to comment on that.

There is DLC on the way from the Entertainment District Arc including Tenzen and the demons. What isn't clear is if they will add additional story mode content. Longer term there isnt a really clear roadmap for the game.

If you like Kimetsu no Yaiba then I would say this is a solid buy.
