Even without the nostalgia creeping in, one can plainly see that this is a game for the ages. Cross-play would make this the perfect release for me, but even as is, I love this game.

Vicarious Visions and Blizzard Entertainment have done something amazing with Diablo II: Resurrected. It is much more than a tribute. It is a sign that the first game is unrepeatable and that it remains so fresh despite the years (at least for some, because it is evident that it aged particularly badly). Therefore, Diablo II: Resurrected is a careful recommendation. It is a game for veterans of the original, fans and curious.

Aside from the graphics, Diablo II hasn't really changed all that much since its debut in 2000, but Blizzard classic ARPG has aged gracefully and is still a deeply engaging and fun experience.

Successfully brings an icon into the modern era, and the underlying gameplay still shines. But while Resurrected does a better job than Warcraft III: Reforged, it leaves similar questions unanswered over its feature set and long-term community support.

Diablo 2 is back in a Resurrected version and could appeal to purists as well as young people eager for challenges: The plastic has been completely revised, everything has been modeled again, and is now very flattering for the retina. The atmosphere of the game is as crazy as ever even though the storytelling has gotten a little old. The same can be said with the gameplay, which has hardly changed an iota: it's still just as nervous, addicting, devilishly catchy, but at the cost of sometimes outdated ergonomics. Nevertheless, we do not shy away from our pleasure of replaying this legend in conditions much more in line with what is being done in 2021.

If you don't run afoul of the game's technical and server-related issues, you'll find Diablo II: Resurrected to be a good version of the classic action RPG. For those who have played with the 2000 PC classic countless times, this is a like-for-like copy of that title, only with a few more accessibility options and a new lick of paint so it blends in with modern releases. For those who are new to the game or are more familiar with Diablo III, keyboard and mouse players will feel limited, while the lack of modern quality-of-life amenities can dampen the excitement for the title. Either way, once everything clears up, Diablo II can become a great addition to any ARPG library, and if you're one who pays attention to the review score, you can bump up the number when the fixes roll in.

Diablo 2: Resurrected is, if anything, a faithful remaster of the original game. The visual overhaul and fantastic cinematics maintain the dark tone of Sanctuary’s horrifying demons and tales. Unfortunately, that alone doesn’t hold up after 20 years of innovation. Annoying gameplay mechanics, constant selling and buying, restrictive controls, regressive character art, and finicky UI poorly date this adventure. More quality of life changes should be here to truly bring the classic back to life. Diablo fans may love this remaster; others will likely not.

They seemingly did not take into account how the game would actually play on an entirely new visual system. It mostly works, but just like Blizzard, they're half-assing it, aaaaand charging you a, in my opinion, way too high premium to play an old game, with no positive changes outside of it kinda looks prettier.

I loved this game back in the day, but damn, I do not remember it being this frustrating. And not in terms of difficulty, but in terms choppy game play. When I click the button, my character should do the thing for one. I know that veterans of this game enjoy the throwback. I know that people played D3 and were like "this isn't my D2 that I came to love," but like could they not implement some QoL improvements that we saw in D3? How long has battle.net chat been integrated with all of their games? And now here we are creating channels just to send a whisper. Which is outside of my point a little, but really.

This is such a huge cash grab that I 100% fell for. Everyone who wants to play this game or get the nostalgic feel of Mephisto runs should really look to Project Diablo 2. Which is open source as long as you have a diablo 2 key or whatever. It was community-driven and, in my opinion, way better than Resurrected. Granted it doesn't have the cute graphics like this, but honestly, I'd take it over this one.

5/10, 4 of which are due to nostalgia and cutscenes. So really, if you weren't a hardcore D2 player back in the day, I don't really know how I could recommend this.

Love the game. Hate battlenet. There has to be some kind of legal issue with how they handle the servers and now no TCP IP play apparently.

The game won't even launch because of AVX error. Game is a complete waste of time.

Critic Reviews are off basis and don't hold any substantial value. I have to question the validity of the critics giving the ratings as theyCritic Reviews are off basis and don't hold any substantial value. I have to question the validity of the critics giving the ratings as they blindly ignore the year, price, and hype around this game. It has completely fallen short of being praise worthy. Toggling between old/new graphics is quite interesting but I would say this would have been better released as a $10 expansion to the original offering it just a graphics engine update and improved cinematics as that is what it really is.

I rather play the game in its original form than this replica without local multiplayer.

Connection interrupted many times, wish I could host my own server instead of their instable servers. Online hardcore server will guaranteed kill you as you will teleport some times at the worst time. Losing connection = losing progress and loot on the ground.

Unit pathing/collisions is identical, pretty sure they just updated the graphic engine and left everything else untouched. Graphics are slightly better but don't feel better with how clunking movement and world interaction is. Not to mention players blocking doorways etc.

Inventory management is still a nightmare. They added tabs to the storage for shared storage which is nice. But, doesn't improve potion management. Should be able to set slots to auto pickup and slot specific potions. Also should be able to set auto use conditions.

Multiplayer loot is first come first serve. Makes for a lot of communication required around loot which slows gameplay. Would be nice if loot would be suggested based on class/build. Considering the cost for the game.

The original Diablo 2 I would give a 9/10 considering it was made 20+ years ago. This game you can only rate it on the reskin that it is. I would say they did a 10 out of 10 on updating everything artistically. But, unfortunately this is a game and visuals only affect the first impression and reality sets in and in this case I'll stick to the original game than this joke "resurrection" that tarnishes the original's legacy with no improvements to the game mechanics including no balance improvements.
