I had my doubts going into Dicey Dungeons, despite the pedigree present. I was worried the core reliance on random dice rolls would create a frustrating experience for the player. And while I've had those moments, I always felt that I could look back and say "that's where I went wrong" and not "the random numbers just didn't work out in my favor!" That alone is an incredibly feat. Stack it on top of six incredibly unique character mechanics, episodes that force the exploration of alternate playstyles, and an expertly crafted aesthetic, and you have another absolute slam dunk from Terry Cavanagh.

Dicey Dungeons overcomes the reputations of its genres to become one of the most original and immediately enjoyable games of the year.

Dicey Dungeons is a smart little game you can play whenever you want, just 20 min in between other activities… until you realize you’ve been playing it for hours.

Dicey Dungeons is a brilliant rouge-like deck-building game full of humour, hard-as-nails gameplay and plenty of replayability. The six playable characters are so different from one another that players are sure to find one that fits how they wish to play the game. Whether you want to be an aggressive warrior or a sneaky thief, there’s something for everyone.

Under its goofy premise, Terry Cavanagh's new production is a very well designed title. Really strategic and offering a huge display of combinations, Dicey Dungeons can also be a little frustrating as we can win or lose on a roll of a dice.

Dicey Dungeons certainly offers a unique experience to turn-based, deck-building titles. Unfortunately, the inclusion of dice can both excite and frustrate, as no amount of planning can prepare one for each contingency one might encounter or a poor run of luck. The unique playstyles keep the game fresh, the sheer quantity of items one might accrue add to the customization. If I've got the itch to throw dice, I can see myself dusting off Dicey Dungeons before anything else, but I think my luck's run dry for the time being.

The charming dungeon crawler builds itself around the chaos of dice. Choose one of six characters, each with their own unique skills and way utilize your rolls of the six-sided die. Combat is rather fun, the artwork feels like a pop-up book, and the electronic soundtrack will have you tapping your foot. Despite the characters and additional modes though, it doesn't feel like Dicey Dungeons expands upon its early hours of play enough. Still, it's an enjoyable roguelite dungeon crawler.

There is definitely a mix or skill and random luck to beat the game.

Game(s) like: Lighter Slay the Spire, Insane Robots

    Pros:
    - Each character and each episode felt unique and interesting
    - Easy to play game that was just fun

    Cons:
    - Would of been nice to have options to make gameplay speed up
    - I sometime couldn't get information on what my equipment was or what equipment others had before a fight. Should show you to help pathing and reduce random.

I like the fact that it turns an abstract dicing game concept into... just dices and fighting in a dungeon. It's super smart! The game features many unique characters / enemies which contains tons of unique mechanics. It's very deep and you will enjoy it!
The only issue of the game is not being engineered very well (a typical one man indie game problem) -- it contains many bugs, performance issues, and of course, balancing issues. Well I guess you can always wait them to patch it.

Dicey Dungeons is quite an interesting game that I both like and dislike.

Starting off with the negatives; the game feels like it should be in early access. It's short, it need balancing changes, and it just altogether feels more like a really good concept that needs more work to see it's full potential. I beat a run on my second attempt and the whole time I was waiting for the game to actually get hard as I was still using the things I started out with and was breezing through it. On top of that once I did beat it I was seriously expecting that there would be more floors leading up to another boss but no, that was it. The game really feels like it is lacking.

Now with all that said, it's still a fun experience. I enjoyed my run despite feeling it was too easy and too short. The combat is fun and innovative and it really feels like a good concept that could be great just given some more thought. With how it is though it's more of a casual game. Things are easy and you can beat a run in a very short amount of time. This is certainly a good one to grab so you can just pick it up and play a run or two every now and then to kill some time. Just don't expect a challenge or enough time to really get a good build going.
