  • Summary: DiRT Rally captures the essence of what makes rally unique – that sense of trying to remain in control of your emotions, as you hurtle along at breakneck speed, aiming to squeeze everything out of your car whilst knowing that one crash could irreparably harm your stage time.

It is not the biggest, not the prettiest, but it's simply the best and is not ashamed to admit it. If you hate racing games departure from reality, after playing Dirty Rally you will enjoy to drive the real car. Everything is somehow easier than in game... [Issue#260]

DiRT Rally has made me forgive all the bigger and smaller missteps Codemasters may have committed. It's a great, very demanding game that could benefit from more maps and attention to detail, but even considering those minor flaws it's simply the best rally game out there. Richard Burns Rally finally has a worthy successor.

It’s a thrilling race game – the first one to actually make my hands sweat - but it isn’t the most beautiful one out there. You’ll need your best racing skills to complete it, but if you’re not scared by a challenge, DiRT: Rally is the perfect game for you. [feb. 2016 / page 068]

For years, offroad fans are screaming for a return from Codemasters to classic rally – as well as for a modern successor to Richard Burns Rally. And this delivers on both ends. The career could be more polished and less grind, though.

Dirty Rally can be unforgiving, unrelenting, and seemingly as high in its demands as the infamous hill climb at Pikes Peak. But the journey is sublime.

Even completing a stage in the relatively tame classic Mini Cooper S will leave you feeling bothered and fatigued. [Feb 2016, p.114]

If you go into it looking for a game that doesn't give you an easy go of it and expects you to concentrate and really invest in the challenge, then you will find a satisfying and genuinely exciting game here. If you go in expecting tons of flash and colourful presentation then you may be sorely disappointed.

Dirty Rally is still the best. SLRE cannot touch it. As a guy who loves his cars, has built an old volvo rally car and spent a lot of timeDirty Rally is still the best. SLRE cannot touch it. As a guy who loves his cars, has built an old volvo rally car and spent a lot of time driving said car. This simulation is still a sim, it has its issues but they are so minor they have not bothered me, runs great on a 4690k w 2R9390's and brothers family share with a 4690k and a 970. G25 and Fanatec GT3 work fine. Handling is superb, one of my favorite titles in a long time. Expand

It feels FAST, controls are tight, sound is killer and graphics are amazing.
You can customize your cars till they feel just right for your play style.
Online stuff is cool too. Daily, weekly, monthly events where you compete for time.
Highly recommend this game for anyone looking for a thrill. Can't put it down.

This game is punishing, and I adore it.

Nothing like any of the previous DiRT titles where you can just mash down the gas and steer for dear life although fun not realistic. I found out very quick that you have to finely tune your vehicle and finesse it through every track, alot of skill to build in this game. At the time of this review I'm only sitting at around 15hrs or so but from what I can see there are a lot of tracks to race on and vehicles to unlock or should I say purchase. Again it's nothing like any of the previous DiRT titles, it's an actual simulation now instead of an arcade game. It's punishing, I'll say it again..IT'S PUNISHING.

Now you get a crew chief and get to hire and upgrade mechanics, in between stages you can repair your car. The graphics are beautiful and the sound is great. To be honest I was shocked when I first started playing, I couldn't do anything or keep my car on the road because I was so used to how the old DiRT titles played. I stepped back took a deep breath and began to start respecting the game for what it had evolved into, an effing simulation.

Once I learned I had to tweak my car settings for every single track and gave the game respect I started picking it up and learning to drive again. In the old DiRT series you really didn't have to make serious adjustments for most tracks anyways, in this game you really need to...or you will fail. Also I read some other reviews about people playing with a M&K..not going to happen...you need a controller by default. This game actually makes me want to go out and invest into a wheel and pedals, I have never ever considered that until now. I'm about to take my nerd level up a notch.

I feel like a kid at christmas now after playing this game, I have always been a rally game & DiRT fan and now it's evolved so much I can't stop thinking about it. I can't believe how nerdy I sound right now..but I don't care because I have DiRT Rally. :)

I played DiRT 2 the most even after DiRT 3 was released since I was so ashamed of DiRT 3 and all of the Gymkhana whatever stuff they forced into a series of races. Now that we are back to DiRT lets keep it here please, this game has redeemed the series and for that I am truly grateful. The game just feels and looks and sounds so good, and there are a lot more customizable options now to your cars, I don't want to spoil it but you have to "unlock" the good customization options. You are going to need them, the more you drive a car the more your team becomes familiar and the more unlocks for your customization abilities for that particular car you are granted. The nice thing is all of the liveries are already unlocked giving you a little bit of flavor right off the bat, but the new customization replaces you being able to unlock paint jobs.

The game feels balanced, the physics are very punishing and realistic and you will grow to respect the track and your car very quickly. I have not found a track I dislike yet, they are modeled so well and the physics of each track are so amazing and..whats the word...brutal. One other thing about the DiRT series I always loved was the replays, and they are just as amazing now as they always were. There is no more rewind your mistakes, now its "reset" your car with a time penalty unless you can drive out of your mistake quicker than resetting your car. You can resart the race but you will lose a specific amount of credits that are given to you each race as a reward for not using the restart feature. Eventually using the restart enough times in one race will render you with zero bonus credits but they will not affect your original credits you will earn for finishing the race. Very well done on Codemasters part, they are very balanced on punishing you as a driver without robbing you. ;)

They did a good job with this game this time around folks, you can plunge into career mode "like me" or go test drive any car on any track on custom championship. In career mode they don't necessarily throttle you to go a certain way, it's basically up to you and how you spend your hard earned credits towards vehicles in order to access certain tracks and races. Codemasters deserve a nice little pat on the back, job well done.

If you were or are a rally or DiRT fan and want to kick it up a notch or two buy this game, you won't regret it. It's punishing and beautiful and lots and lots of replay value.
