Sep 15, 2017Dishonored: Death of the Outsider captures everything that’s great about Arkane’s assassination series, while also showing that it can still surprise. Smart tweaks improve the core gameplay and, if you’re worried about having fewer powers to play with, you can always go back through it with Corvo’s moveset when you’re done. As far as mission quality goes, it peaks in the middle - the fourth mission has us revisit a location from Dishonored 2, albeit slightly reworked, and the final mission feels much more linear than what’s come before. Still, it all leads to a satisfying conclusion that neatly ties up every plot strand that’s been hanging since that political assassination, whoever you decide is responsible.
Sep 15, 2017Death of the Outsider doesn't offer a better story than Dishonored 2, but more freedom in terms of gameplay creates better entertainment.
Oct 1, 2017It lightens up on the story consequences from your actions and allows a much more liberated approach to your gameplay in which I found myself gleefully slaughtering guards more than creeping around corners.
Oct 18, 2017With its weak main characters the class and storytelling depth of Dishonored 2 is out of reach for Death of the Outsider. Having said that, you definitely can look forward to a suspenseful and stealthy return to Karnaca.
Oct 9, 2017Death of the Outsider is a good DLC: it has the same, excellent gameplay of the series but it lacks real new features.
Sep 18, 2017Dishonored: Death Of The Outsider is a solid, inventive, yet somewhat subdued capper to the stories from the previous Dishonored games. While the smaller scope can be felt throughout, the approach to allowing players to express themselves as a master assassin is just as strong as ever. It's uncertain where the series can go from here, but this stand-alone release proves that Dishonored is still a remarkably designed stealth-action game with much potential, that offers players the chance to be creative in ways they'd least expect.
Sep 18, 2017For an expansion that took nearly an entire year to arrive and priced at a premium, Death of the Outsider fails to deliver.

A few memorable levels with interesting problem-solving choices, new and simplified magical powers to play around with, and a fun deep-dive into the occult underbelly of the fictional world. Engaging and fulfilling as a final chapter for a handful of characters I have grown to love.… Expand

Expand

A unique revamp of Dishonored 2 which brings the story to a climax. The gameplay has been vastly altered in a way that is intimidating at first, but doesn't take long to get acquainted with. Maps are even more open-world than before, and abilities have been optimized.
This game has gone through an overhaul for the character's arsenal. For one thing, the pistol is now pretty much non-existent. For another, you no longer search for Runes since you don't earn any new powers anymore. They're all given to you right at the very beginning.
Dark Vision, Premonition, and Shadow Walk were all combined into one single ability called "Foresight". Blink was replaced with "Displace" and slightly altered to allow for a few map-specific usages. A new ability named "Semblance" was introduced, which is an improved version of choking somebody unconscious as it also assumes their identity temporarily.
Mana no longer exists. It has been replaced by "Void Energy", which automatically replenishes to full.
Similar to Dishonored 2, this game also has limited currency and ammunition is hard to come by. Bone Charms are sold in stores more often, and stores offer plenty of upgrades. You'll primarily be focused on using your three powers for the majority of the game.
The maps are a lot more open-world now and the design of them forces you to assume a stealthier approach. You cannot go guns blazing as easily anymore as you will be killed very quickly. If you wish to make the most of your experience, try playing with pure stealth to utilize most of the character's arsenal and to give yourself a challenge.
This sequel has five maps, and should take at least 10 hours to finish if you play stealthily.
An interesting sequel to the series; Death of the Outsider attempts to optimize the game design while also offering more freedom to the player. Maps take longer to complete compared to past games, and easily punishes you for being careless. Overall, this game is a step above the second game, especially with the improved performance.
I give this sequel a 9/10 for being pleasantly challenging. It is very satisfying to play as a silent assassin as you find yourself having to be more cautious about the actions you take. You can no longer simply rush through like you could with the previous games. The developers are moving in the right direction with the series by keeping it fresh with each iteration while trying to further stress the importance of stealth.… Expand

1) The main character has way less powers (only 4) and they are not upgradable.
2) "New Game+" does not carry anything from a previously completed game. Instead, it lets you replace 3 of the powers with Dishonored 2 powers. This may sound cool, but practically speaking I was not able to access some areas of the game for bonecharms with Dishonored 2 powers, which was frustrating.
3) The story (especially the ending) isn't satisfying.
If you can buy it for 10 bucks or lets, do it, otherwise, it's a pass: it's not worth 30 bucks.… Expand

Feb 4, 2023The game can be summarized easily. A tedious, lifeless and soulless expression of gratuitous woke garbage. Avoid.
