In this instance however, developer Etranges Libellules have crafted a game of rare quality, movie spin-off or not.
Alice in Wonderland is a surprisingly innovative adventure game with a strong presentation and an entertaining gameplay.
With clever design to separate itself from the disappointing movie, Alice in Wonderland is a fun game in its own right.
A quirky, delightful title. Calling it one of the best movie tie-in games we've ever played sounds a little like we're damning it with faint praise. So instead we're just going to go ahead and say it's one of the best games we've seen on the Nintendo DSi in quite a while.
If you enjoy platformers filled with puzzles and a classic storyline, this is your chance at playing a good, portable movie tie-in.
It takes the idiosyncrasies of its source material and crafts a videogame around it, working just as viably as a completely independent property with its own sense of identity and adventure.
Don't expect ico crossed with the mind bending puzzles of Professor Layton, but do expect a well produced adventure game with puzzles that don't make you feel dumb.
