  1. It’s the atmosphere created by the outstanding people at id that makes Doom 3 standout from the crowd. The lights flicker on and off, enemies hide in the dark and wait for you, and you truly feel alone most of the time you’re playing the game, which is surprising considering there are other characters that you work with.
  2. Doom 3 is excellent. It isn’t revolutionary, but it does bring a simple and exciting gaming experience with near-flawless precision.

There are some great firefights where the odds are so heavily stacked against you that victory, when it comes, is an emotional event.
  4. As a single player game played in short burts and with an eye towards old school run and gun style dynamics, we there's precious little that can touch Doom 3.
  5. The weapons are pretty unimaginative (all the imagination was in "Doom 1" – this is just a continuation) and are often useless (ever try using a rocket launcher in a small room? Well, there are about a billion small rooms in Doom 3). The BFG is fun as always, of course.
  6. A headlamp! A headlamp! My kingdom for a headlamp! Other than being way too dark, Doom 3 is a fun old school romp set in an immersive environment with cutting edge graphics.
  7. I can only strongly recommend this to a particular group of people. Fans of horror, fans of relentless shooters, and those who have a fantastic PC. The rest of the crowd will leave underwhelmed.

I was blown away by the graphics, it's like actually being in there and that's 10x scarier than anything. When a game with this kind of evil pulls you right into it, it's definitely unsettling to say the least. I've been really limiting myself on when and how I play it. I only do a level per night and I go as slow as humanly possible to let my nerves get the full load of adrenaline and terror that each corner, closed door and hidden place where evil lurks provides. I was surprised with the story, it's like being dropped right in there, I wasn't ready to be so immersed in this kind of world. Expand

Okay...okay. All of you who have nothing better to do than complain about stuff can just shut it. This isn't the best game you'll Okay...okay. All of you who have nothing better to do than complain about stuff can just shut it. This isn't the best game you'll ever play; I still have high hopes for HL2. However, this doesn't mean you can compare Doom to games like that and FarCry!! Id made the FPS genre!!! I believe "DXO" said that the beginning was ripped from Half-Life. Um...this game is a REMAKE of one from the EARLY 90s!!! If anything, Half-Life ripped from Doom!!!!! Others said this was "lacking innovation," "scripted," and "claustrophobic." Some complain that there's no built-in flashlights, and the one you carry forces you to be weaponless while using it. And still more complain about it being too dark. ...You know why??!?! Because all of this is meant for the player to have the CRAP SCARED OUT OF HIM!!!!!! And I believe that complaining about a base on MARS being "claustrophobic" is like complaining about the international space station not having a large reception room with couches and a television!! It wouldn't be practical! Besides, if there were large, shiny rooms everywhere with a dozen monsters in each, no computer on EARTH would be able to run this game aside from teh ones used by the five richest Kings of Europe or something. So play the game and have fun killing mindlessly. Otherwise, go play something else and smile some. You know, 'cause the zombie behind you is gonna rip off your lips. Expand

This game was amazing for it's time. Even today I play it. You can make the game change to any resolution to anything you want through This game was amazing for it's time. Even today I play it. You can make the game change to any resolution to anything you want through the .cfg files but a lot of people didn't know that so it was hard to change it. It does support 5.1 Surround sound witch comes in handy for people with surround sounds. It actually makes the game scary because you know were they are but cant find them to realize they will jump out into your face. The weapons didn't look the best but still had some good choices. The adventure of finding PDA's to get into doors made it more then just a run a shoot game. The light though is the problem. Running around with a flashlight then having to switch back into another weapon made it hard but wasn't a total disaster. Over all a good games with some little miner flaws. Expand

It was good for an FPS, but, it just had a lot of disappointments. Overall, it was pretty good.

The graphics are brilliant, make no mistake - they surpass anything made to date. The sound is also very good, the ambient effects make you feel like you are in the middle of the original 'Aliens' movie set - Screams, cries for help, footsteps all around you... it really plays on your senses! The entire single player experience is based on scripted events, which isnt bad except for the fact that every time you play this game, it will be the same. The problem is that the gameplay, whilst wonderful and scary at first, becomes very stale and repetetive after about an hour or two. You will spend the entire game wandering through small corridors into small rooms, have a few nasties jump out at you which you'll, and then repeat as necessary until you defeat the final boss. I'm sure once some decent mods are released, the Doom 3 engine will be used for a much greater cause, but the current out of box experience is wonderful to see, but boring to play. Let's hope Half-Life 2 makes up the shortfall in playability. Expand
