Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age tells a captivating tale of a hunted hero and is the long-awaited role-playing game from series creator Yuji Horii, character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama.

While it is the eleventh mainline entry in the critically acclaimed series, Dragon Quest XI is a completely standalone experience that features entirely new characters, a beautifully detailed world, finely tuned turn-based combat, and an immersive story that will appeal to long-time fans and franchise newcomers alike.

A young man, about to participate in his village's coming of age ceremony, travels to a Sacred Stone alongside his childhood friend. After a series of unexpected events, this intrepid adventurer learns he is the reincarnation of a legendary hero from a forgotten age. The young hero sets forth into an unknown world on a journey to unravel the mystery of his past... but the welcome he receives is far from warm. Upon revealing his identity to the King, the hero is branded as "The Dark spawn" and hunted by a relentless army. Fleeing from his pursuers, the hero assembles a band of endearing adventurers who believe he is actually The Luminary reborn. The hero and his newfound companions embark on a quest that will take them across continents and over vast oceans as they learn of an ominous threat facing the world.

Dragon Quest 11 successfully counts on traditional JRPG virtues in a contemporary look, becoming the best current title of the genre.

Dragon Quest XI may delight even the staunchest opponents of JRPGs.

There’s some good stuff in Strange Brigade, such as its unique visual style and its deliberate kitsch narration. But if you’re used to Horde-type games, it won’t be challenging and fresh enough to entertain you.

A JRPG for people who haven’t played one in a while, basically. Well-made, but disappointingly safe.

Difficulty was just right for me who is not a heavy gamer.

The only thing keeping this game from getting a perfect 10 is the soundtrack. They butchered it on the PC and PS4 releases.

I had fun the entire way through and loved every minute of it. Plenty of content, fun turn base fighting, lots of abilities. The crafting anvil was a terrifically innovative way to craft new gear. The casino in game made me laugh. They put so much effort into it..

A great traditional turn based RPG.

Don't get the fascination about this series. This game is so traditional it's both 'refreshing again' and 0815 close to borderline boring, sometimes.
Level design is average, the fighting system is good but nothing new at all.
Characters are lovely, the story is boring.
Had to stop playing for some weeks after 30 hours to get my motivation back. Did beat it at 74 hours.

Graphics 9/10 (1440p60p on max details).
    Soundtrack 8/10 with orchestra mod.
    Story 6/10
    Characters 8/10
    Gameplay 8/10

So if you are fed up with modern JRPG, e.g. Final Fantasy then this might be a nice change.
I can recommend 3 better current gen jrpgs on the spot, in that order. 1: FF7 Remake, 2. Xenoblade Chronicles 2, 3: Persona 5

No free upgrade to XI S on steam, it feels so greedy from SQEX.
Don't buy this game anymore and wait XI S if you really want it.
