Dream Daddy‘s dads are likable and charming, and the storylines that play out are engaging. But for me, DD succeeded not because of its deft handling of romantic love, but on the strength of its portrayal of a healthy relationship between parent and child. And, Internetty as it is, DD represents the best of the Internet — its existence is a gentle, implicit reproach of Trump and those like him who would seek to ‘other’ the vulnerable of our society and stoke the flames of the culture wars. In contrast, DD imagines a world where being queer isn’t even a topic of conversation — its queer characters just are.

Between the delightful little flourishes, this is a game that wants to make you think. And feel.

Fantastically written and life-affirming dating simulator that doesn't use all of its potential.

Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator fulfils its promise of silly dad humour and heartwarming fatherly moments, but just falls short when it comes to the romance.

Dream Daddy isn't going to placate gamers that want to see more gay heroes saving the day in cinematic action titles, but as a story-focused game packed with charming, funny, and ultimately very human moments, it's a delight – and as a dating sim, it stands as one of the best in the genre.

Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator is a good visual novel with many interesting ideas. Unfortunately it lacks depth.

Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator has ample promise and a lot of heart, but wasn’t given enough time to grow. Most of the dads are lovely to get to know and worth dating. Players want to spend more time with these guys, but only get three relatively brief dates to whet their appetite. Then there’s the fact that it doesn’t yet feel finished due to a fair share of typographical issues, mishmash of art styles and the amount of gameplay bugs still impacting the experience. Once patches go out these latter issues should be resolved, but nothing short of DLC or a sequel will bring players more time with the cast of dads who simply weren’t given enough time in the spotlight to really shine.

The writing is amazing and the character designs could not have been any better. My computer can even run this game on Daddy settings, showing the compatibility of this game between systems even on the lower end of the graphic quality spectrum to the most high quality computers/laptops. I am a fan of this and I recommend that you play it, and no the game is not fully voiced and the creators even said that it would not be. Expand

    PROS:
When dealing with topics that really matter, this game demonstrates more tact and depth than you'd probably expect from something that sounds like a kinky novelty sim. Yet Dream Daddy somehow manages to not take itself very seriously-- without relying on cynical, 'ironic,' or condescending treatment of the subject matter. This is just a very genuine, heartwarming little game about relationships-- both romantic and familial. You can tell that everyone involved cared about ensuring their audience would have a fun time.
The writing charms your pants off at every turn, it shakes things up with the occasional silly minigame, and no character is completely irredeemable-- not even a certain housewife, which I appreciated. There's a lot of misogyny present in some gay-male-oriented spaces and it would've been easy to just throw her under the bus as an antagonist.

    CONS:
A bit buggy at launch-- a lot of folks still aren't 100% clear whether Joseph's good end is currently accessible at all. Hopefully this'll get addressed soon.
A little short, but honestly not THAT short considering the conventions of the genre, and considering that enough routes should be humorous and enjoyable enough to spend time replaying the game.
A little less spicy than some people on the internet were -probably- hoping, but hey. I can understand the choice to keep the tone light and wholesome. That's what fan works are for, after all ;)

Overall, as long as you're not coming into this thing totally expecting it to be something it's not, I have no clue why anyone wouldn't have a good time. If you aren't a fan of cheesy dad humor or busting a gut the first time eggplant emojis fling themselves across a screen, then sorry, but you prooobably weren't actually paying attention to the game's marketing campaign.

I really loved howI don't play many dating sim games, but the character designs in this game really drew me in, along with the Daddy motif. I really loved how different each of the character personalities turned out to be, which really makes it hard for me to name a favorite. I think my only problem with the game was that it was just too short in both terms of length and how many dates you can go on with each dad. However, for a $15 price tag, it is absolutely perfect! I really loved the soundtrack, the interesting mini-games, and all the dad jokes! This is definitely a game I recommend if anyone just wants to have a wholesome dad time! Expand

I've only done one of the character's routes so far, but I look forward to doing the rest. The writing was fun, cute, and touching. I was a bit disappointed that the lines were not fully voiced, but that's just a minor issue for me. I'm particularly fond of your daughter's journey through the game, and that it's not just about bangin' some dads. Although that's nothing to complain about. Anyway! DDADDS is a fun game and I recommend it to anyone looking for a new dating sim. Expand
