In spite of its bland plot and the occasional bug, Drone Swam brings a new and refreshing take to the strategy genre.

Drone Swarm is a simple strategy title with great combat set amongst some pretty backdrops, where battles provide plenty of excitement.

A confident, creative approach to the RTS genre that falters in its structure and progression systems.

With its huge amount of drones, Drone Swarm offers an innovative idea, but apart from that it feels very unfinished.

It’s a shame that the combat is so messy, and that bugs and poor mission balance and visual communication obfuscate your ability to interact with a core mechanic that feels fairly novel. The inspired visuals of drones crashing around like droplets of water in a roiling ocean are at least fun for a while, but there’s little here to hold your interest in the long term.

Appreciating the narrow focus on the game they sought to deliver was one of the better points of the experience. By stripping away a lot of excess systems it allowed a better core experience. The issues are bad optimization that leads to heavy lag and frequent crashes. Additionally the gameplay is too fast for the 'art' style of attacking to truly be effective resulting in a major loss of what was the initial draw of the game to begin with.

I played this game in it's alpha and beta stages, and this is my review after playing ~2.5 hours of final game. I recieved this game from myI played this game in it's alpha and beta stages, and this is my review after playing ~2.5 hours of final game. I recieved this game from my friend who developed it, I am myself included in the credits (in Special thanks), and I was told they would be happy if I made a review for it on my own. So here I am.

I really like unique gameplay mechanics of the game, alongside it's simple, but engaging story. Some people say the game gets repetitive and boring, but after couple of games I realised that I often forgot about half of my abilities and gameplay mechanics, and after I tried to utilise all of them everything got much better and more engaging. Maybe you only have 3 buttons to use abilities, but then you have to realise every ability has multiple uses (when you draw paths differently, when you hold the button instead of drawing). I assume people who say it's repetitive only used Q to attack, maybe used couple of walls to defend, but nothing more.

I like the visuals, I especially love background visuals (I am into space things a lot) where you have planets and everything, graphics in general look good for a game like this, maybe some alien ships have too simple design and they look weird, but that might be just me.

Soundtrack, oooooh boi I really like it, I am musician myself so my taste is pretty demanding for soundtracks, but they did a really good job on it.
Sound design is also really great, it fits the aestetics

Now onto things that I didn't like...
One thing that I do not like is inconsistency in damage registration, you have to draw your lanes precisely onto targets, if you hit only edges of them you deal almost no damage, which is logical, but for someone like me who has problems to draw precisely even with a pen it sometimes gets frustrating I also sometimes noticed that even when drones hit the enemy, they didn't deal any damage, this might be worth looking into, or maybe I am just too bad :D

I also encountered some bugs, like when I won the mission but I failed at the same time, I got a cutscene which meant I won, but after it I got a message I lost and had to replay the missions, though I didn't encounter any bugs that would ruin my gameplay completely, and these are things that should be easy to fix (and they are also hard to find :D).
I am planning to finish it, but I don't have that much free time (or I just play Escape from Tarkov with my friends lol).

At the end I just wanna say: Thank you Tomáš for showing me this game.
