Everyone who played the original game back in the 80's, should be right at home. It's the 21st Century version of "Elite." But newer, uninitiated players may find it strangely desolate and repetitive. A grand space simulation, aimed at the series' hardcore fans.

Bold, brave and beautiful - Elite's return aims high and achieves almost all of its grand ambitions. [Mar 2015, p.60]

Elite: Dangerous is one of the games with the greatest potential ever seen in the history of this media. At present, we are talking about a title that includes a reproduction in 1: 1 scale of our galaxy, with billions of stars to explore and contents that go far beyond the life expectancy of a human being. In one word: incredible.

For all its frustrations, you'll spend much longer in the sweet spot than you spend getting there. Elite: Dangerous demands much, but repays your devotion many times over.

Elite Dangerous is a very ambitious game. Travel through the massive universe in your own spaceship. Trade, explore and fight your way through the galaxy in this epic and enormous game. But keep in mind: the game still has a way to go until it's finished.

Everyone's experiences in Elite: Dangerous will be unique to them, and it only takes a couple of mesmerising ones to justify the early grind.

A "launch" build with some features still in infancy, Elite: Dangerous nonetheless offers terrific space flight ambiance and trading progression befitting of the once-revolutionary series. In a few months time, this title could be outstanding.

The game has been designed as an immense space sim sandbox and will need you to make your own game out of it. If you are looking for immediate satisfaction or a hand holding heroe story you wont get it here. But all things considered Elite is probably the best space sim out there. Expand

I originally played it back in 1984 on the Beeb. Its now back and even more dangerous!. The graphics are superb and the feel is the same as back in 84 (but fresh and how I hoped it would be) but with all the technology edge you could ask for.
If you want to really get the max out of it buy an Oculus rift and hook it up. You'll find yourself sat in your spacecraft. You can look out the windows, admire a passing ring system with a setting sun and track a pirate as you blow him up.. you are there sat in the seat with your ship around you.
It is probably the best rift game there is.
The game is a sandpit.. you make the story, you decide what you want to do that day.. trade.. pirate.. bounty hunt.. explore. There are no levels..no end game... enjoy the ride and the view!
The game is online and will continue to evolve..so this is just the start.
It does take a bit of learning to master. The game doesn't spoon feed you and in my opinion it is all the better for that. As you master your ship you can tweak it buy more bits for it, expand its capability and more.
    I'm having a blast and I'm smiling like I did 30yrs ago!

Elite is back! New, upgraded and shiny but at the core it's still Elite - you, your ship and the universe of possibilities.

As per 2.07 (last pre-launch update) it feels good, looks better and plays great. The foundation is very solid and it can get only better with the promised development after release that will continue to expand the base of the game while also working on major expansions like planetary landings and first person.

The latest fixes during Beta and Gamma have done an excellent job to improve the stability and overall balance of the game. Trading is finally fixed and logical again, combat feels great. No issues with the netcode (for me) and overall an excellent experience. Mind though - this game isn't easy and doesn't hold your hand - your actions have consequences and there is no magic immunity nets. Live fast, die hard!

In addition, Frontier Developments have shown to be a great company, constantly hearing and answering their customers and changing the game to suit people's requests. Many times features or fixes requested in the forums have "magically" appeared in the game showing that the guys at Frontier actually do really care about our opinions - this also corroborated by some of the senior Frontier staff frequently posting and engaging in debates and clarifications with the players.

the best thing about this game is the atmosphere. there is no other game where you feel like a real space pilot like this. on the bad side are the quests which are for the most parts pretty boring, repetitive and sometimes just really hard to complete without getting an appropriate reward.

It's hard to describe. On one hand, it is quite addictive, in that, you're trying to build the funds for all those upgrades and bigger and better ships, and graphically it is very beautiful. On the other, however, the fun, just like the game, is mostly lost in a vast void of space. It has brief moments of excitement, glimpses of game play out of the corner of your eye...but sadly, it's mostly hours of doing nothing, despite trying not to. This is only part of the story...if you factor in the bizarre game mechanic of real time quest timers in solo mode, that expire while you're out of the game entirely, it just makes matters worse. Ensure you don't have kids, or work, or have a social life as you'll have to sink hours of uninterrupted time into the void that is Elite Dangerous. Expand

I paid $60 for this game, and played it a bit at first. Now, why the hell do I need to create a "Frontier" account just to play the game now?
