Endless Sky is a 2D space trading and combat game inspired by the classic Escape Velocity series. Work your way up from a relatively wimpy shuttle, cargo ship, or fighter, to a highly upgraded and customized flagship or to a massive fleet of warships or freighters. Earn money by carrying passengers or cargo, escorting convoys, bounty hunting, or plundering and capturing enemy ships. Take sides in a civil war, or ignore the story line and just enjoy exploring the galaxy and blasting pirates.

This games is AWESOME!

It's a trader, passenger, capture ship game that has sucked me in for 100s of hours. It's free and has numerous mods - which I haven't touched yet. You start with 1 of 3 small ships and I now have a fleet of over 1000. Each ship is heavily customizable, weapons, shield chargers, engines, power sources, cargo pods, passenger bunks, coolant systems, batteries, boarding weapons etc. I love to capture ships and board disabled ships and steal items. I do recommend going into the text file and adding "disables" to the NPC fleet file so those darn NPCs don't destroy disabled ships that I want to steal.

The missions are ok, but you have to be careful with cargo missions because of crew salary per day that could eat up your funds, if you don't do some general cargo sales from system to system.

Once I acquired a ship with more crew, I could start capturing bigger and bigger ships instead of buying ships.

Overall. A really fun space trading game with a nice story built into it. I'm sure I will enjoy the mods too!

Ultimately its a relatively standard shooter/trading game but the beauty is in the balance of ships/weapons/factions/etc. which is perfectly balanced. A concept that many more technically impressive games utterly miss (cough cough Elite Dangerous cough cough). There's a nice story woven into it with the promise of more to come and a promise which has thus far been delivered. Not only that but its open source and free. To be honest I would have happily forked out £10 for this. Expand

This is one of those rare addictive, simple games that you keep coming back to. It's got a great balance of simplicity and complexity. ItThis is one of those rare addictive, simple games that you keep coming back to. It's got a great balance of simplicity and complexity. It reminds me very much of the original elite in some ways, and shares some basic elements, the life of a freelance space pilot. Instead of the revolutionary 3D graphics that Elite introduced this is more like a bullet storm 2D, but doesn't rely on reactions or skills or punish you if you can't play well enough. You are immersed in piloting your little ship from planet to planet, but despite the action it's more of an adventure. I'm not sure quite how long one could keep playing this game, certainly as long as many AAA titles in it's basic state, but it does have the potential to have far longer amusement if one wants to download plugins from the nebulous Endless Sky modding scene which promises to be huge, or even to write one's own as a diversion from the endless search for gaming Nirvana, which this really is. Open source and free, it's a tiny download and will run on pretty much any PC. There is far less text in the game than the opening scene suggests. Expand

It just, NEEDS MORE! With such a brilliant concept and so much potential, I browsed through free to play games on steam,, and found this one. The graphics match Drifter, which is a HUGE compliment to the game. The optional story (which I completed) is very fun and teaches you the basics. I got bored after a while, however, and put down the game. Awesome game, it just needs more Stuff! Expand
