Balance is something that most people don’t particularly treat as a guiding principle in life, yet when playing Even the Ocean, it’s clear that Kittaka and Hogan both view it with reverence. If there’s one thing that should be taken from it, it’s that perhaps more of us should.

Even the Ocean is a Brilliant story based 2D platform game. You play as the character Aliph, a Power Plant technician who is selected to fix the malfunctioning power plants. You have a light and dark energy bar that some would call your health bar but it works in a different way, if you max out the bar with light or dark energy you die so keeping it stable can be some what tricky at times.

The energy bar also helps you along the way with the challengers you will face, lots of light energy will increase your jumping and lots of dark will make you move quicker. As mentioned, this game has its challenges, most of them are when you are repairing the Power Plant.

Without spoiling the story, there are 6 Power Plants that must be repaired, 3 at the start of the game and 3 towards the end. I played this game on my PS4 and repaired the first 3 while doing some other stuff throughout the game like talking, visiting other areas etc and spent just over 4 hours on it, so I am guessing this game is approx 7-8 hours long.

The soundtrack in the background is not very loud but peaceful and kinda relaxing. The game looks and plays like most retro style 2D games.

I really enjoyed every part of this game, I didn't feel like I was getting sick of it at all. I must say I did get stuck on one area where I was trying to jump up but kept on falling, I finally got there tho

I highly recommend trying this game out - Brilliant!

Please Note - I played this game on my PS4 but I could write this review for it as Metacritic says it has not yet been released.
