Eyes in the Dark is a real testament to the efforts and inspirations of developer, Under the Stairs, and after this experience with Bloom Manor, I truly look forward to seeing what it's capable of next.
Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of One Victoria Bloom delivers a fun, laid-back, aesthetically pleasing roguelite experience that rewards players for both precise gameplay and clever use of the game’s upgrade system. For the small price of $15, what’s not to love?
Eyes in the Dark is a self-assured roguelite platformer stacked with visual flair. Frantic encounters with a cast of tendrilled monstrosities and tight twin-stick controls make for a tough but thrilling time despite a slightly anaemic story.
Eyes in the Dark doesn’t exactly reinvent roguelikes or twin stick shooters so much as it simply takes good parts of those things and ties it up neatly in a darkly humored style, both charming and creepy.
Eyes in the Dark is a small but feisty mix of a roguelite and a 2D
platformer. It’s atmosphere, art style and engaging gameplay make up for
the lack of originality and not the best controls (controller highly
recommended!).
Eyes in the Dark is a great little roguelike platformer whose clever upgrades system and unique presentation are enough for it to stand out in a crowd. Although the Impediments system can leave your experience a bit too at the mercy of RNG, overall the variety of upgrades and difficulty curve ensured that Eyes in the Dark remained a fair and fun experience. If you are seeking a new roguelike to get invested in, you should definitely consider a trip to Bloom Manor.
If you enjoy Eyes in the Dark's premise and time-bending story as well as the rewarding randomness of the genre, you'll have much more to do after your first run is finished.
