Included is an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters. Every minute is a fight for survival against the terrors of the outside world – radiation, Super Mutants, and hostile mutated creatures. From Vault-Tec, America's First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation. Vault 101 - Jewel of the Wastes. For 200 years, Vault 101 has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. A vast and open world of unimaginable possibilities opens in front of you in Fallout 3. Great story, flawless combat system, and the option to choose your own way makes it a hot candidate for game of the year. [Nov 2008]
  2. A massive, enthralling achievement.
  3. The PC version's controls are certainly sharp and I found myself pulling off many more headshots and quick kills with a mouse and keyboard than I could on the console counterparts, but if you really do want to play with a gamepad, Fallout 3 does fully support the 360 controller on the PC as well.

But Fallout 3 has fidelity to its predecessors in more important ways, such as offering an incredible depth of role-playing opportunities. [Holiday 2008, p.54]

Thrillingly dark, gruesomely adult and one of the most atmospheric games ever. [Dec 2008, p.66]
  6. In Fallout 3 Bethesda has made a very good thing, though it is somewhat hampered by the lack of variable scenery and a VATS that plays less than perfectly.

It’s a game that rewards the long-haul with deep, inventive missions which eschew the usual fetch and kill structure, ensuring that the many hours spent in Fallout 3’s wasteland aren’t wasted. [Christmas 2008, p.88]

Best game to play, finish and end or play over and over again with mods or not. BUT if you have so many mods in the game and enter a building then Fallout 3 would crash and the only way to fix this is to kill your character and respawn for it to load properly and play it and do it over again everytime you open and close the game which is annoying. Also there's no windowed-fullscreen so you have to use your phone to search the internet to know how to easily finish the quest otherwise the game would manually close if you're not patient and the game's engine is too old. I have Fallout 3 GOTY so I have no problem with any crashes in-game and only have problem with too many mods crashing my game. I wish I could finish all the quest but I have OCD so this is going to take a while for me to finish and Fallout 3 is very interesting. Expand

I'm not to sure what keeps me in it, maybe the ability to mod at your will or just the fact you can do what ever the heck you want. Yes, there is bugs, but there are mods to fix that. I'll admit the vanilla game of this can be pretty dull, but when you add mods its epic and never ending. The story line is a little short, but still fun. There is defiantly more than enough place to explore, quests to find, and loot. Expand

Bethesda has not released a perfect game, but there is no doubt in my mind that this is indeed a worthy heir to the Fallout lineage. What it has lost by leaving the 3rd person isometric view it has gained back 100 fold by an amazingly detailed world, storylines that go far beyond simple lines of dialog, and many different paths for the player to choose. There is in fact far more content than any single playthrough needs to experience, promising greater replayability. Expand

Say one thing about Bethesda, say they are the best in their field
Like all of Bethesda games, this game is far from perfect and leaves you wanting for much more. The combat is clunky, the facts and animations are mediocre, the main plot is uninspiring half way through, the world doesn't react to you and the automatic res-pawn doesn't quite work.

Despite all these things, this is your best hiking simulator in a post apocalyptic world, and listen to the best oldies music, while romping in your powerarmor and plasma rifle, putting down critters and mutants alike and engaging in another interesting and comical situation from one of the various quests is simply awesome.
Bethesda games are always released broken, due to that you should download some mods from the nexus to fix the game to your liking, mostly the combat system and aiming.

I enjoyed the first two maybe a bit MORE than this one, but Fallout 3 is a pretty good game on its own. The story is good and has meat to it, and the characters are memorable. The graphics are meh, especially for today's standard, however the soundtrack and the environment the old tunes created was unmistakable. I remember playing this with my brother (we controller swapped) and had a blast with it on the 360, so when I had the means to get it for steam/pc, I most certainly did.
