Primal, while not an FPS, is unmistakably a Far Cry. Ubisoft tried an experiment with this new setting and managed to refresh the franchise without altering its core.

Solid, engaging and technically delicious, Far Cry Primal is a spin off that amuses the player even without firearms and vehicles, although the playful infrastructure is too conservative. On PC the only major differences are the sixty frames per second and a sharper image.

The hackneyed story doesn't detract from the thrilling world and new challenges of 10,000BC. [Issue#249, p.45]

If you’re even remotely interested in the Far Cry games then you’ll be right at home with Far Cry Primal, but if you’re looking for a completely fresh experience you’re going to be sorely disappointed.

Far Cry Primal on the PC looks like a well prepared conversion - stable, pretty and optimized. But these days that's not enough - a game running on a much more powerful hardware should be unique and FCP isn't. It's hard to justify spending money on a superb PC that will run the game in the highest settings when an equally good console version runs great on a cheaper machine. And you need to remember that Primal is just a visual overhaul of Far Cry 4.

If they had put another year of development toward it, maybe then we would've seen what we were hoping it would be.

Far Cry Primal is more and yet less of the same Far Cry we’ve been playing for the past few years, minus a few fun systems. It's not worth the asking price, and demands more of your time than it deserves.

    Lots of stuff to craft

Why so much negative reviews? Well they probably don't even have the game and just hate Ubisoft. I mean come on! Look what they are saying. "boring"? "Ugly"? LMAO!

I could not put it down for a minute. This is a completely new experience, before we have not seen anything like it. I played it over 100 hours, and I want to, but I do not give more jobs. Why it is so short? And why there are so few towers that can be captured.Yet this is the best of what I played for the last time. I felt the game at my fingertips. Repulsed three times on the emotions. Do not listen to haters of the bottom of the Internet. It's really GOTY. Oh my god it's just 10/10, god 10/10!!! But for fans it 20/10 Expand

To each new Far Cry, the story will get worse. In this case we have a plot that works and very simple, but this is uninteresting and not engaging.

A too simplified gameplay in which you do not suffer to survive, with bad and too repetitive melee combat.

The story revolves around you building up your village and increase it's population and basically eradicate the other two factions.
It seems the game took inspiration from other survival games popular on pc but implemented a way to simple and boring crafting system to appeal to the console masses. The game is way to easy aswell, I played on normal and I recomend anyone looking to play this game to start on hard. And playing it on the hardest difficulty still doesn't make it a "survival game".
First things first when playing this game is unchecking the gathering animation as it does nothing but waste time and annoy you. You will be stopping and detouring on your way to your destinations ALOT.
Traversing this world is not as fun as in FC3 and 4 with the lack of a wing suit. And what they did add, the ability to have a pet beast, some even ridable does not make up for that. I found the beasts useless and annoying for the most part.
You also have very few weapon and attack variety making the action bland long term.
It is a huge game though with alot to do, all the ubisoft standard side activities are here but there is still no replay value to this game and there is no multiplayer to extend it's life beyond finishing it once. The story is nothing special but it isn't bad. The new made up language is pretty cool and very convincing.
As for how the game runs, it's not that good either. My fps ranged from 57-63 with occasional drops to 50ish (1080p/ultra). And I'm playing on an i7 4770K, 16GB ram and a Titan Black card, the performance should be better.
Imo the main value of this game is potentially mildly entertaining you for long periods of time IF you absolutely have nothing better to do or play.

It was generallyBig fan of the Far Cry series but this was a "no go" for me. Played it for about 12 hours and just got bored like most. It was generally because none of the characters were interesting since they didn't speak any English (yes I know there are subtitles) and instead spoke gibberish, story seemed pretty much just strengthen the Wenja tribe which got boring as time went on, the CQC was so bad it felt like I was playing Skyrim again, a lot of trashy upgrades and crafting and the grinding for materials gets more excessive once you have to start gathering "rare" materials.

I could complain about many more problems like the outdated graphics, poor checkpoint placement, lazy map design (heard that the map layout is very similar to Far Cry 4) but in other words it's pretty much a game that gets boring and frustrating over time. Don't get me wrong riding animals is pretty cool but everything else just seemed sort of "disappointing".

I couldnt stand it for more than 2 hours. And im not talking about the fact the game was made as kinda expansion for FC4, no, thats not what was worrying me. I didnt have any expectations before i start, i was ready for something new and unique. But the plot is awful and hardly understandable, gameplay seem unclear and exhausting by its boreness. I just deleted this game and won't try to play it again. Expand
