A poor, ugly PC port of a weak PSP game. [08/2015, p.67]

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. The Good:
about 10% of the story is awesome twists and some good familiarity and seeing someone do very well who didn't get a big shot in the original (edward, the kingdom ninjas of eblan!)
The music. Sort of. It's also the bad because!
    The Bad:
The story is almost all rehash and eye rolling repeat copy pasta events. from the inn encounter in the desert, to "spoony bard", to kains betrayal, to leviathan getting yang, to the stupid dark elf, to falling out of the babil tower into suprize, an airship, to rubicant showing up just to cheese on edge, to cecil turning into a pawn because "baron bad" plot, to the same stupid greenhair lunar that doesn't reveal crap in the same cutscene opportunities for 20 hours. it's enough to make you vomit. thank god I haven't played the original in a long time, it would've made it a zero. Because the original is truely wonderful. This is a sham of a story.
The music is also placed in stupid, stupid. Stupid areas. Remember the painful sad castle theme, where damcyan and eblan castles had been razed to the ground, dead and dying soldiers are strewn in the wreckage, monsters lurk, you find anna dying, ect ect ect? Yeah well they're the new themes for rebuilt damcyan and eblan! because squaresoft can't be bothered to think something original up or pay someone to either! The lack of any hindsight into what the score meant to story is obvious. painfully so.
    The Ugly:
The horrid cell sprites, the idiotic clown makeup on half the characters like luna, palom and porom (as kids) the worse pics in the menus for the most part, kain's purple armor, the list goes on. I'm just sick of griping so this is it for me. Don't unless a few scant details and a little bit of the gameplay intrigue you that much. This is an "I got it for nearly free from humble bundle/steam sales" or don't waste your money/time.

Full Review »
