Overall the game is beyond simplistic, but perhaps that's for the best. Overcomplicating things might have made it less fun in the grand scheme of things, and while I can't say for certain if I'll be playing this game a year from now, I do know I can affectionately call it my frightening summer fling for multiplayer. Illfonics has set the stage, it's time for them to keep improving upon this great idea, and for other companies to take the hint and follow in their footsteps. This is asymmetric multiplayer at its most addicting, and horror in one of its purest forms.

A truly unique experience, unlike any other multiplayer game you’ve played (certainly a cut above other asymmetrical titles), where cooperation, wits and sometimes ruthless murder are what it takes to survive. Be wary of this game if only for its propensity to hook you. Jason has sunk his pickaxe into me, and he's not letting go, ensuring I will be playing Friday the 13th: The Game extensively for the considerable future.

Friday the 13th does not overflow with content, but is rich enough to generate varied memories (unlike Dead by Daylight, another example of asymmetrical multiplayer). What it needs to become a truly worthwhile game is some more polish. [08/2017, p.76]

Players can absolutely see the incredible potential of Friday the 13th: The Game. When the game works without issue, it provides a fantastic, tense experience unlike other asymmetrical horror games on the market. It could just be so much better. Polishing off the bugs and expanding with additional content and modes would turn this into a title that becomes a longstanding favorite rather than something folks play for a hot minute before moving onto the next Early Access multiplayer title.

Cult series done pretty well into the game. The fun is almost instant, but it also disappears as quickly. If there were more possibilities and environments, perhaps one would stay there longer. For a few plays the game serves fine, but not many players will return very often. Impression is also corrupted by obsolete visuals and technical issues.

Friday the 13th: The Game has a lot of potential, but it's an incomplete game with only one mode and without the single player campaign. Right now it's afflicted by many bugs and glitches and it needs a lot of support and polishing.

These shortcomings and ongoing server issues aren't easily overlooked, and work against what promise Friday the 13th shows. As of now, a week after launch, it's short on content and performs poorly all around, especially on consoles. The story goes that the developers weren't prepared for amount of people who wanted to jump on day one, but that does little to assuage players who were convinced that they were paying for a finished product. Despite showing potential that may one day be realized, Friday the 13th comes across as an unfinished game that shouldn't have been released in its current state.

But as a huge fan of the FridayOk so first and foremost YES the game does contain bugs and glitches (what game DOESN'T this day in age?). But as a huge fan of the Friday the 13th movies I must say this game is one big fat sexy LOVE LETTER to the film franchise. They absolutely NAILED just about everything you can think of. Jason's design and infliction of terror are absolute PERFECTION. Playing as a counseler makes you feel as helpless, weak, and sometimes stupid as one of the characters in the movies. Why do people think that is a bad thing? This game isn't meant to be competitive per se...it's meant for a bloody good time. And that is most certainly is. Some games play out like a little mini movie and those make for some of the most tense, engaging, and surreal bit of gameplay I've experienced since the first Left 4 Dead game. Thumbs up to illfonic and gun media for making this fanboy super happy! Expand

This game is entirely dependent upon the group you play with as a solid group that actually plays the game makes this game much more enjoyable. On the PC version I have had no issues other than DLC and it seems to get better with each match I play. It is hard to express how fun and entertaining it can be to play in an iconic horror movie setting. They have really created a tense environment but once again the enjoyment factor comes from playing with a good group. Get a bad group and the experience is not nearly as fun. Expand

A shame the plug was pulled on this game due to licensing issues.

The games optimization just plain sucks. Even on High end rigs its hard to hold 60FPS+ on max settings 1080p.

I know what lots of people would say Jason is OP but I think it wouldn't have made sense otherwise. A team based game where surviving isn't guaranteed even working in groups. Do your best to outsmart Jason and escape the area with 3 different escapes and various survivors and abilities.

For what it is, it's a fun game especially with friends. I played it solo and still had all that fun. 100 Hours in the game from the first few months and bam, suddenly no more DLC.

The plug was pulled and the game is practically dead now outside of a cult following player base or players that played the game for free.

40 bucks definitely was a steep asking price, 20 should've been it. Now I feel this game should be in the cheap section of gaming. Hoping one day this game can get a true DLC revive.

I initially could've given this game a 8 because of how the game was running before. Constantly improving and making it more and more fun but officially I'm now at a 5 or 6. It's incomplete and its still a buggy mess that's dead they're trying to sell.

I would say unless you have friends to play with, pack it up and pick up another title.

This game has potential, but the devs are not listening. Bugs galore (although a new patch has helped), horrible facial designs and graphics, troll players, exploits and missing content, promised at backing-stage. All issues I'm pointing out were GLARING during beta testing, however, they are just being addressed now -- weeks after the game release at a $40.00 price tag. They botched it, and while they may fix issues over time and do what they promised, the devs have destroyed their credibility with the community. Expand

This is another - No Man's Sky! Full of broken promises and hiding behind a lawsuit.
Gun media was quick to pass the game over to - Dark Towers etc and stop and more money from going into this broken mess!
They say they can't fix the game because of the lawsuit that has nothing to do with them nor the game, it has to do with the first movie etc etc
They claim they can't even fix the stuff that is already in the game like the cars, trees etc but yet the release the game on another system and then a year latter onto another system the Switch.
Just save your money and never sent it to this company!
By the way this IS the same company that is making - The Predator! So you now know that will be a broken mess as well!
Even at the new price of $5.00 PASS!

Currently buying perks are unavailable, making it almost playing each game as a counselor with using nothing but the bare bones default perks, which sucks. Had several glitches where hopping off a small ledge had me floating in midair, which is obviously a game breaking bug. There is a problem with saving your profile data and the saving icon animation remaining on your HUD throughout the game. Jason is more or less OP and if you know his controls well, you can pretty much take everyone out without any much skill. As with unlocking counselors perks, you have to also unlock Jason's kill animations. His basic executions are a crotch shot with an axe or choking them out starting out. This makes it boring to kill every other counselor the same way, although there are few environmental executions you can do that are spread out across the map. The Xbox One version currently is still in "broken" stage without the day 1 patch that both the PS4 and PC users have already received. This game is definitely not worth the $40 price tag. Either wait for a price drop or find a better game. I'd advise on the latter. Expand
