I'm honestly not sure that other people are reviewing the same game I am. The one comment that seems fit is that the graphics in this game are akin to that in "Beneath a Steal Sky". In other words, horrible even for 10 years ago. Made by a single developer, this game comes across as the type of thing one would find in a developer's portfolio for a job interview, not a released game. Made by a single developer, this game comes across as the type of thing one would find in a developer's portfolio for a job interview, not a released game. The voice acting is stilted and not evocative in any way. To it's credit, the story is somewhat interesting and there is some humor in it. The best news is that there is a demo freely available from the distributor's website. I strongly advise anyone thinking of buying this game to download it and try it out. If you like what you see in the demo, it's probably worth the money. Myself, I could not get past the horrible graphics. Expand

The 1980s are back ! And they forgot to bring a vengeance.

Simply put, someone forgot the meaning, the purpose and the beauty of a point n' click interface : You point, once, you click, once, and something happens. It took decades of cogitating and fumbling, by many designers, to evolve from the awkward text interfaces of old adventure games into the efficient simplicity of a Pn'C. The

It took decades of cogitating and fumbling, by many designers, to evolve from the awkward text interfaces of old adventure games into the efficient simplicity of a Pn'C. The maker of Gemini Rue decided he could restart from scratch and do better ; the result is shockingly awful. His clunker only reminded me what a chore playing used to be sometimes, a chore we endured because there was nothing better yet, no option at the time. In 2011, leave it out, boy.

Too bad. There is obviously a good effort put in the storytelling here, but I'm too busy either mocking or insulting the interface to care.

This is a gawdawful game with too many adventure game diehards praising it. I was duped into playing it from one of those best adventure game lists. It's basically a very simple and cliche memory erasing and reconditioning, existentialist plot with a very predictable ending. The dialogue is poor, and its basically a 1 hr game dragged into 10 times its length because of horrid pacing andThis is a gawdawful game with too many adventure game diehards praising it. The dialogue is poor, and its basically a 1 hr game dragged into 10 times its length because of horrid pacing and super clunky mechanics and gameplay. A game that's only been a few years old that uses super low grade blocky graphics and terrible mouseover detection. You'll spend 90% of your time just moving your mouse over random blocks of color, hoping they are useful objects to use. For an adventure game, the item usage is also clunky and terrible. The production values and writing are gawdawful and amateurish, with lots of spelling errors, bad logic, really bad directing, plot design, game design. It was like a lazy game made for a school project and done in a few weeks. If this is the sort of game quality that should be expected from the best adventure games around, I think the genre is already dead as we know it. Expand

For better and worse, Gemini Rue might best be described as a "neat little game." For whatever reason, the game feels short of its potential, and every facet seems sullied by flaws both minor and moderate. Still, the cyberpunk tone, engaging story, and varied gameplay make more of an impression than those flaws.

Overall, Gemini Rue is a solid effort. The story is excellent, the puzzles are good enough, and while the graphics aren't anything to write home about, they score high marks in nostalgia, and they do a reasonable job in setting the mood.

With its charming atmosphere and its great storytelling, there is no doubt that Gemini Rue is one of the most elegant point-and-click adventures of the year, probably the flagship in the Wadjeteye Games' portfolio and one of the best games made with Adventure Game Studio.
