  1. The biggest novelty in GP4 is the completely new, better and more efficient engine which provides higher level of detail, and more realistic effects.

Each of the 17 tracks is meticulously detailed and accurate to within inches of its real-world counterpart. [Dec 2002, p.124]

To be sure, Grand Prix 4 is a souped-up version of its predecessors with no major innovations, but this is about as close as you can get to the real thing without being scraped off the pavement.
  4. This game is so rich with eye candy, you’ll be running to your optometrist complaining of a cavity.
  5. One of the best Formula 1 games around and for those after a challenging racer paired with some beautiful graphics and excellent AI then Grand Prix 4 is for you. The definitive F1 racer is back.
  6. Its attention to detail and wealth of customization options counter minor physics engine draws and interface issues.

As a realistic F1 sim this one takes a back seat to EA's title.
  8. The most accurate re-creation of the 2001 Formula 1 season available, despite its problems.

Veteran F1 racing enthusiasts - those who don't like to see their PC sims equipped with meddlesome graphic controls and training-wheel physics - are advised to stick to "F1 2002." [Dec 2002, p.98]
  10. I can’t think of one thing that will bring me back to it for my F1 fix.

GP4 is worth a look, offering a rock-solid racing experience against some well-crafted AI, but it doesn't add anything significantly new.
  12. The improvements primarily in graphics and sound in Grand Prix 4 do not seem worth the huge increases in computer power necessary to run the title smoothly.
  13. Computer Games Magazine
    60
It remains hampered by somewhat soft physics, outdated season information, and the absence of an online multiplayer mode. [Jan 2003, p.77]
  14. If this game had come out 4 years ago, it may have been worth purchasing. It's in desperate need of a patch to fix the controller and menu issues.

The definitive F1 SIMULATION. Where as EA's efforts are just GAMES, this is as close to the real thing as anyone will ever get. Many The definitive F1 SIMULATION. Where as EA's efforts are just GAMES, this is as close to the real thing as anyone will ever get. Many will say very little has improved over GP3, but why bother to fix what ain't all that broke. What's needed to be done has been, and what was already pure gold has been polished. As for complaint's about the steering help, well you'll just have to get better and switch it off. For those who want a hollow GAME with all the razzamatazz, by all means go for F1 2002. But if something of a little more substance is what you are after then definitely get Grand Prix 4. Too bad SCEE now has a tight hold over the F1 licence coz from now until 2007, if you want the Official game, get a PS2 and have fun with the arcade efforts SCEE spews forth. Full Review »

The first F1 simulator game I played in my life. I remember that I spent hours playing and the racing circuits were true to those of that time!
