Grounded is a different formula in the survival game genre that stands out for its nature. It is not different from its other relatives, but it does have that touch of continuity (a bit monotonous) that will give us several hours of play.

A difficult survival game, stunning through the original setting, fantastic atmosphere and joy of exploration. Even the combat system is good, there’s astute design to be seen everywhere - Grounded is well worth spending time in, even if it’s not any sort of revolution.

Obsidian has done a great job at all levels - universe, exploration, combat, construction, survival - for this beautiful and original survival game, just a little more balancing and it will be perfect.

While Grounded may be rather tough for the lone wanderer and leave something to be desired in terms of equipment variety, it certainly doesn’t lack for thrills, co-op fun, and a wonderfully unique environment to explore.

Grounded is a charming survival experience that mixes exploration, action, and crafting into one grand package. There are plenty of options for those wishing to get immersed in the world, and anyone willing to put up with the odd multiplayer requirements will surely get hours of enjoyment out of this game.

Grounded is a delightfully creative and occasionally terrifying survival sandbox.

Although it doesn’t reinvent survival game mechanics, Grounded’s setting goes a long way towards making the familiar seem new. The world is great fun to explore. It’s easy to lose yourself for hours in the game’s satisfying loops and creative environments. The narrative does a good job of giving you direction but not a rigid path, so you’re always free to take your time and enjoy. Slightly tepid combat and a few minor technical issues aside, Grounded is one of the most engaging survival crafting games I’ve played in quite a while.

Grounded is undoubtedly one of the best survival games around. While it falls into some of the same traps, getting very grindy and gatekeeping progression while not signposting as well as it should do, there's little doubt that it's a very engaging game. Where many games will give you a world to play around in, Grounded places you in a living, breathing world and has you engage with every element in interesting ways.

While Obsidian isn’t known for survival games, it ended up making a great one.

Thrilling survival adventure with a large, lovingly designed game world that comes to life thanks to many different insects.

Grounded can easily be ranked as one of the best survival games in recent years. Even with its an uninteresting story, facing the breathtaking backyard world is delightful, especially because of its creativity and surprisingly frightening elements.

The tiny backyard world in Grounded is a joy to explore, full of danger and wonder. It offers great value, despite a slow progression system and a drawn-out main quest line.

Grounded brings a breath of fresh air to the survival genre by coming up with a beautiful and unique style to which the gameplay is adapted. This makes it can be called a very entertaining title, which is also very well done audiovisually. We are only a little worried about the content, considering that is somewhat minimal. If more is going to be added soon, it looks very promising for this game in the long run.

Grounded is a great little adventure capable of entertaining for many hours, as long as you don't suffer from arachnophobia. The whole crafting and survival structure works, a little less the limited combat system, but the general experience manages to give truly unique moments.

Equal parts survival game and horror sim, Grounded is a must-play for those who can handle spiders. Cutesy graphics hide a complex survival game with compelling depth, alongside some truly intense combat encounters.

Beyond the first few hours spent groping around and a fair amount of hard work required by the progression system, Grounded is a solid survival with a good technical value, and which offers a good amount of settings that allow you to customize the game according to your needs.

Featuring a fun and slightly silly setting for this genre, Grounded comfortably provides the basics that allow it to create an engrossing and at times horrifying survival experience. Add a good amount of worldbuilding and a narrative that compliments the gameplay nicely and you have a cooperative experience well worth your time, even if a few bugs (and not the good kind!) have stuck around throughout its pre-release period.

Grounded offers a survival game that is both fun and accessible, without taking the player by the hand. The difficulty is present, without being punishing, and the progression is really satisfying through this gigantic garden, which manages to mix beauty and arachnid horrors. It's an interesting adventure, whether you're playing single or multiplayer, and we can't help but recommend trying it out, even to those who usually ignore survival games.

Grounded is a product that knows how to be delicious in its genuineness. Leaving aside the narrative sector that will hardly be able to conquer you and a technical level not in line with that of modern productions, on a playful level the Obsidian title is able to entertain players of any kind and harness them with its multiple options within a world full of different biomes, with many activities to do and an avalanche of objects to collect and analyze. A small, large world in which to immerse yourself with the smile of a child.

Overall, the survival genre is very saturated. Grounded is a unique take on a tired formula and is genuinely a breath of fresh air in the space. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel but it doesn’t have to, it’s chosen a premise and has adapted it beautifully and skillfully. While some improvements can be made in combat and other areas, the game is a well-made experience that survival fans will love. I personally can’t wait to jump in with three friends following the full launch. It can get lonely out there all alone in suburbia.

Grounded isn't the biggest game of its kind, and most of its moment-to-moment gameplay moments have been seen before in other games. Still, the fantastical setup makes for an immediately intriguing setup, and to further stylize it as a uniquely child-like adventure, polish it beyond most of its peers, and set it in a world full of familiar sights to see in startling new ways makes Grounded no small feat.

As a survival game, Grounded has a good story and gameplay, but only if you can accept all kinds of bugs and terrifying spiders. The game creates a mini world that allows players to explore driven by curiosity, and there is some guide missing when the player is exploring. The difficulty of the single-player mode seems a bit unfriendly, reducing the fun of the player experience.

You are catapulted from the top of the food chain to the bottom, and giant ants and spiders simply look horrifying. Although in "Grounded" it does not result in horror, but in an exciting and smoothly playing adventure game in which, thanks to your ingenuity, you must survive long enough to figure out how to get big again.

Grounded has a lot going for it. It’s a really inventive setting, with some pitch-perfect opportunities for the team to deliver on “the Obsidian side” of its initial pitch in the future. Currently, however, it feels a bit sparse in terms of both available content and quality-of-life considerations. And while I really hope that Grounded grows and blossoms into the truly special adventure it could become, it’s still got a few yards to go. [Early Access Score = 60]
  2. Aug 1, 2020
The early access of Grounded is highly recommendable for fans of the genre or even those who would like an entry point into "accessible" survival, who will however have to accommodate for the moment a few bugs and some sketchy narration. [Early Access Score = 75]
  3. Over the past two years, Grounded has cemented itself as one of the best survival games around, with a gorgeous world that's teeming with life. That puts you in great danger, as the massive insects stomping around pose a rather substantial threat, but surviving their attacks and scavenging for materials is a fruitful endeavour. As you make your way through Grounded's biomes, swimming to the depths of the Koi Pond or escaping infected bugs in The Haze, you'll uncover new items that push you even further into this mystery and give survival a purpose. Even if you'd rather sit around and focus on making a cosy home, Grounded's reactive world means that it won't be long until the creepiest crawlies come knocking. It really does feel like you're just surviving in their world, and doing so is a constantly rewarding experience that I adore.

was really enjoying this game but there is one tiny thing that ruins it completely it's called A WOLF SPIDER!!

this damn thing just shows up out of nowhere and will kill you even if your trying to use the workbench. it's allowed to roam freely so no matter where you build your base even at the research station at the start it's going to come and it's going to get you! it killed me twice while i was trying to use the workbench! because of this damn thing i don't want anything to do with this game EVER AGAIN! patch it out or at least have it stay on ONE DAMN SPOT and than maybe i'll come back!

Fantastic co-op game. There is a strong sense of learning how to survive in the garden of Grounded.

Most bugs don't just hang around a place, they roam around, and some of the nastiest ones will even try to track down and hunt you. This makes building a safe base more fun, whether surrounded by palisades, or hidden away from bugs high above on top of some abandoned toy.

Here is are a few hints to get some ideas of how the game can play out:

Many bugs are hostile to each other, and even if they aren't they can often be provoked into attacking each other. You could for example provoke some red worker ants, run away and stand on top of a ladybug causing their attacks to hit it. The ladybug kills the ants. You craft a full set of ant-armor from the parts which renders even the otherwise aggressive red soldier ants neutral to you. Next you start provoking big mean bugs, perhaps even the infamous "wolf spider" and flee into the red ant hill causing a huge fight between the ants and whatever horror you invited to their home. Afterwards you simply loot the battlefield.

Building hint: Research a Weed Stem. After doing so they can be used to build scaffolding which helps get you to high places either for exploration or cool base-building.
