The steep learning curve hides a well-crafted FPS, best suited for those who like tactics and real teamwork more than fragfests.

Insurgency is a rich and deep tactical first person shooter. Something is still missing but that something isn't gameplay or teamwork.

I can’t remember when I cursed that much while playing a multiplayer shooter. It is tactically challenging, but suffers from dreary maps and lack of modes.

Insurgency is a game that doesn’t have any big problems but rather it has a bunch of little ones that culminate.

10 years ago this game would have been lost in a crowd of its brethren – back then, everyone had a game with dusty streets, Saddam’s portraits and AKs. Today, serious first-person shooters like Insurgency are a rare beast, so give it a chance even if it’s far from perfect.

If you don’t mind fighting over the same cluttered iraqi streets and desolate afghan hills that you’ve seen a hundred times before, Insurgency brings enough hardcore sensibility and competent execution to stand out from the other multiplayer shooters. The old-school gameplay combined with updated mechanics are a breath of fresh air in a genre crowded with games that don’t understand that failure can still be fun.

I just made an account on metacritic just to tell you how awsome this game is.
Hardcore-Realism-Teamwork are the three aspects of this game.

Hardcore-Realism-Teamwork are the three aspects of this game. If you are looking into
such experience dont hesitate just go for it. CoD-BF and other fps are just time-wasters
in front of this. There is lack of community atm though..I hope this is just a temporary state
and people who loves fps give more appreciation on this game.

Reminds me of the old school Rainbow Six games without the map waypoint strategy. The strategy happens real-time between players over the in-game VOIP system. You die and you're out. Your only chance at a respawn is your team mates making it to the next objective, else you all start at the beginning of the mission again. This forces one to play as a team, extremely carefully and strategically.

The maps are well designed and very immersive with numerous routes to objectives.

The AI is incredible! During my first game, I thought I was playing against players who were online. I also love the way the AI increases in number and difficulty as more players join your squad.

The graphics are good enough and give a great all-round, authentic experience. Night missions are fantastic and very challenging.

The surround sound with a gaming headset is awesome. One is able to spatially place sounds around one's self while playing, particularly moving enemies.

This game is a must buy for FPS fans.

This is the game I've played the most in my libraryI bought Insurgency during a sale a few years ago and it has become my favorite game. This is the game I've played the most in my library because it combines realism with fun gameplay mechanics. Definitely worth the price even when not on sale (currently $15 USD). The developers (NWO) continue to release free updates even longer after it was first released. The developers even released free DLC and they listen to the community. Expand

Nice game. I won't write a long review for this game as long as I just want to give a positive review for this game as a feedback for theNice game. I won't write a long review for this game as long as I just want to give a positive review for this game as a feedback for the developers and as a recomandation for new players that are looking for a title on Steam that is a good-balanced team based modern FPS, enough simple to learn basics on how to play for new ones, has a very realistic gameplay and control of the weapons, good sound, nice interface, decent price and decent graphics. Although I think the game is in need of a little bit more optimization for some maps at least and I say this because the base engine for this is Source Engine so I'm sure that this fact can be improved and could be made one of the best features for this game. The game is decent optimized and works well for everyone for now but things could be much better (I don't want to say optimization is a big problem for this at all). Also the game is populated and you can easly find a game/server or people to play with at least for now (Number of concurrent players in-game vary from 1000 to arround 2500+ per day without an event in progress like a discount or something). Finally - a grown-up FPS that I can get my teeth into. I was never a fan of COD and only briefly flirted with CS and the others.

Finally - a grown-up FPS that I can get my teeth into. I was never a fan of COD and only briefly flirted with CS and the others.

Insurgency throws you in at the deep end, and you either sink or swim. It's brutal and uncompromising. Frustrating at first, yes, but as you learn the different map and modes it quickly clicks that teamwork is the key ingredient for success. When people work as a team this game is simply sublime and hugely satisfying. The online banter between can be pretty entertaining too, sometimes.

The maps are relatively expansive and take time to navigate. They are well-constructed and there are many nice detailed touches particularly (for me) in sound design which is brilliantly immersive (the sound of the odd insect buzzing past you, being given-away by your breathing, etc.). The game mechanics are sharp and responsive. Guns and grenades are done properly in this game.

I've noticed a few minor graphical glitches but nothing that spoils the fun.

Since I bought it some months back I've been playing it it daily (and often when I shouldn't be). The recent free update was quite substantial - including two new maps. Excellent value for money.

The game is obviously a labour of love for the developers and I want to tip my hat to them. Very well done and thank you very much!
