Jotun makes a strong impact early on and the hits keep rolling as the game lurches forward with each heavy axe swing.

If you're looking for something laid back, beautifully drawn, and well orchestrated with some intense, but not overly difficult, boss battles, then Jotun is easy to recommend. It's a magical ride that I'm sure I'll revisit from time to time in the future. Even though the whole experience only lasts just over five hours, it is five solid hours.

All told, Jotun is a wonderful experience with just a few sour notes. My only regret about it is that it feels short.

Jotun promised a lot with its Kickstarter campaign, but it has delivered on all fronts. A wonderfully crafted adventure based on Norse mythology, players will find themselves engrossed in the world of Jotun from start to finish. The art style is gorgeous, the soundtrack is epic, and the boss battles are tense. A few flaws crop up, but enough is done elsewhere to make up for it in the end.

With well designed and unique graphics, a majestic soundtrack and plenty of historical and mythological references, Jotun takes its rightful place in the halls of Valhalla.

A true gem that could have been polished a little more. Fun, hard and beautiful are the three words that could define Jotun, if you are ready to battle it's gigantic bosses and it's slow rhythm.

If you’re looking for a beautiful world to explore and great boss battles to be had you can’t go wrong with Jotun. For $15.00 on Steam you’ll certainly get your money’s worth. It won’t be easy to earn the gods' favor, but it’s something you’ll be playing again and again in order to do it.

Awesome visuals and simple but effective combat mechanics for a game that impresses with its gigantic bosses.

Jotun is a little indie gem: the combat system is very simple yet rewarding, the visuals are inspired and the fascinating narrative finds its place naturally within the gameplay.

A fantastic game that had some incredible moments. The world design is awesome, and uses some clever ways of revealing the scope of the worlds you explore. The bosses are the key moments of the game. They are gigantic, interesting and varied. I would have liked to have seen a bit more combat variation and wished that movement felt a bit quicker, but in general it’s a game that’s well worth checking out.

Great visuals, wonderful unique atmosphere, Icelandic voice-overs and an opportunity to familiarize yourself with some Norse mythology. I highly recommend this gem! [12/2015, p.69]

Supremely atmospheric adventure in the company of pagan gods will open your eyes. Jotun is a great, pretty and educational tale without any significant flaws. [Issue#258]

Beautiful and stylish journey to the mysterious Nordic myths. A less hilarious conclusion spoils the game a little bit, nevertheless it is still a game anyone - who is not complete stranger to the theme - should try.

Any good bedtime story that makes you want to hear it again right after it’s over is one for the ages.

It’s a wonderful, dazzling little world Thunder Lotus created, and you just might learn something while you’re playing.

Jotun is an epic adventure game that surprise for the colossal scope of its battles and beautiful art style.
  17. Sep 30, 2015
Even though it's far from perfect, Jotun is one of those games where its virtues prevail, one of those games that leaves us waiting for a sequel where everything's polished and improved.
  18. Sep 30, 2015
Despite very minor frame rate dips and the occasional glitchy element, the beauty and wonder of Jotun unfolds like a storybook and deserves attention.
  19. Sep 30, 2015
Mythology fans that like a good challenge, including discovering everything through trial and error, will love this game.

A fascinating viking journey with silent moments and boss fights, but it sometimes lacks narrative.
  21. Oct 16, 2016
Ultimately, there's nothing in Jotun that would have even been hailed as original if you'd seen it in Mickey Mouse: Castle of Illusion, but fun is timeless.
  22. Oct 14, 2015
Jotun turns the elements of an ancient poetic tradition into a digital myth.
  23. Oct 14, 2015
The hand-drawn approach depicts some truly beautiful environments and characters of epic proportions. Unfortunately the battles with the giants, albeit very intense, are too few fostering a craving that is never really satisfied.
  24. Sep 29, 2015
Exploration and adventuring are just fine in Jotun, but the heavy backtracking ad the overall lack of content sometimes are deeply felt.
  25. Nov 13, 2015
It is definitely a valid game, and a beauty when it comes to graphics, but it’s short, can be quite frustrating, and has some pacing problems. If you love action games with some great art direction, definitely give this one a try.
  26. Oct 1, 2015
Jotun has a wonderful art style and engaging boss battles, but unfortunately the exploration turns out to be boring vary soon.
  27. Oct 9, 2015
The surreal world shows a lot of potential but fights as well as puzzles are too simple and too monotonous too often.
  28. Sep 29, 2015
Overall, Jotun is a very visual game with a very memorable art style that offers a well rounded combat system in a setting that does its best to stay true to its real-life inspirations but finds itself lacking in the plot department which is a genuine shame because it's clear that Thunder Lotus Games put a lot of time and passion into this kick-starter funded project.
