Jurassic has enough open-ended depth to appease "RollerCoaster Tycoon" players, fossil hunters, and anyone looking to bag some big game. [2 May 2003, p.79]
  2. Visually and aurally stunning, and has somewhat interesting if uninspired gameplay, but doesn’t have enough interest to hold die hard niche fans.
  3. Takes the theme park genre and injects it with a little dino-fever. The end result is surprisingly entertaining!
  4. Overall, the simplicity is really the only thing that holds Operation Genesis back: it comes across as more of a children’s game than a fully-fledged management title and doesn’t have the enduring challenges to really snare the proper calculator junkies.

A very addictive game that continues to surprise and delight the more you play. For the money, there's plenty to do, and best of all it lets you focus on what you find fun.
  6. This game captured my attention… for about a day and a half.
  7. An enjoyable game that should appeal to dinosaur buffs and park simulation fans alike, thanks to its attractive graphics engine, unique features, and surprising gameplay depth.

Genesis' gameplay would really benefit from more depth: once you get the basic structures in place and the cash starts to roll in, there's little challenge left. [Apr 2003, p.104]
  9. Those who play the most detailed and complex theme park sims won't get anything new from Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. For dinosaur fans, however, it's a dream come true.

Despite the amount of stuff to do, JPOG isn't particularly deep. [June 2003, p.100]
  11. The Jurassic Park license alone can only take it so far before it becomes formulaic. Thereafter, the roars become little more than a growl.
  12. Theme park simming light, and best left to those who can't get enough of dinosaurs.
  13. While it does get addicting to build the park, it also doesn’t do anything outrageously new from anything else that is out in a similar vein either.

Considering the thin gameplay and locked content, it shouldn't be any surprise that Operation Genesis is a console port. [June 2003, p.81]
  15. 30
Just too much fluff and not enough fun.

The only downside is that it gets boring very quickly. The whole enjoyment comes from building the park. Sure the challenges are a good addition but once you're done with them (which are really easy) it feels like a chore to have to build a park again. Because once you're done, it's just boring. There's nothing exciting or particularly fun to do. Full Review »
