I have a lot of feelings about this game, and I’m not even sure that I’m finished processing them yet. I’m going to need to play it again. But for now, I do know that this game is powerful, and it’s going to hold its own special place in my heart for a long time.

True Colors makes an extremely strong case for the best Life Is Strange game yet, with an affecting story that tackles themes such as loss and belonging and featuring the series' most likeable protagonist to date in Alex Chen. The town of Haven Springs is also a standout, and by the end of the game, I was sad that I had to say goodbye to the cast of characters. Hopefully this isn't the last time we see Alex.

Visually gorgeous and emotionally raw, True Colors is an incredible continuation of the Life is Strange series.

True Colors is a big step up for the series and shows that Life is Strange is in good hands with Deck Nine.

Life Is Strange: True Colors paints a pretty picture, creating a story you’ll really want to invest in, with only a slow plot point or two distracting from what is otherwise a great work of art.

Of the Life is Strange games I've completed (2 is still woefully unfinished for me atm), True Colors is my favorite. It strikes the perfect balance of focus on Alex as a person, the town of Haven Springs as a community, and how the two interact and change each other. While I'm still not sold on the superpowers as a mechanic or narrative device, they're unobtrusive enough to be fine, and do provide more to actually do besides walking around, looking at things and talking to people. If you liked previous entries in the Life is Strange series, you'll probably enjoy this one. It's a tighter, cleaner take on the formula, but at its heart, it's still the balance of magic and mundane that’s become signature to these games.

True Colors is the most “alive” Life is Strange so far thanks to a technological leap, but it lacks spark and tries to compensate for it by referencing or imitating the original game.

I honestly didn't expect it to be what it was from all the trailers, the cover etc. I am a person who judges games from their cover which make me not eager to try new games and this was a reminder not to just a book by its cover. It reminded me of the the first life is strange while giving me something new. It manages to improve considerably on the the aspects that made life I strange an amazing game. It's has decitiona that actually affects the game no matter now minor they are. The graphics, the acting, the direction and oh the facial expressions and movement of the mouth is impressive. It made me feel in a way that only the first life is strange was able to make me feel. Expand

    - The story is way too thin. It wasn't nearly as engaging as the story from the other games and there weren't really that many impactful events.

Lis true color is like this guilty teen drama that you certainly started watching out of boredom but finished it while in some sort of timeLis true color is like this guilty teen drama that you certainly started watching out of boredom but finished it while in some sort of time dilation. Entertaining, enjoyable, and deliciously melodramatic yes, but with mediocre writing, a lot of emotional pandering and an uncanny sense of… fake.

First, it’s pretty, but where arcadia bay was somewhat grounded, here Haven looks like well… heaven, a somewhat woke heaven. A perfectly laid out town, surrounded by majestic mountains, sublimed by crazy sunsets, hell even graffiti looks like some artist work. Add the cinematography that do its very best to get all the most DRAMATIC shot of whatever happens at any given moment, so much so that when there is a down time the cameraman feels oblige to pan the camera around like it is a freaking traveling commercial! everything starts to become heavenly… blend.
Next let’s talk gameplay, moment to moment gameplay is obviously not a focus but here there is quite nothing. Whatever you do, choose, think, Alex is locked so tightly in her destiny that as the player you have no agency. Which is a shame because with powers like she possesses you could easily imagine some kind of detective, or manipulation mechanic that would dictate the path of the game.
But all this is secondary, this game heart is its story and characters if the heart is beating, we’re saved right? Well, I hope ambulance can reach Haven because this story is in dire need of some CPR action. Characters are so 1 dimensional that if Alex had more than 1.5 in social skills, she would not need her powers at all. No scratch that, since her real power is indeed to be able to read and edit the scenario on the fly, her powers will change to fit the situation, she never really makes wrong choices, she is strong and somewhat unfazed by fall damage, everyone likes her, she… she’s a Mary sue?
I don’t think it is a good game, but I still recommend it, with a friend or alone, in a *guilty teen drama* or a *dating Steph sim* mindset it can be quite enjoyable. But sadly, I’m afraid that I would much prefer going back in time to Arcadia bay that staying 1 more minute in this fake paradise.
