December 2021, Tokyo district court. Akihiro Ehara stands accused of groping a woman on a crowded train. A bystander's video footage of his attempt to flee the scene and subsequent apprehension is all over the news, and public outcry demands a maximum sentence.

"Three days ago, a dead body was found in an abandoned building in Yokohama. Have you identified it yet?" he proclaims as confusion cuts through the court room. His defense lawyer, Saori Shirosaki , has no doubt that crucial details of the situation have been overlooked, as Ehara was not even tried for the murder. She contacts detective Takayuki Yagami to investigate this further.

How could Ehara have committed two crimes at once? Was the sexual battery just a cover up? Has Ehara gamed the entire justice system? As victims surface and Yagami digs farther into the truth, he is faced with a question: Defend the law, or enact justice? From just a single stumble, one can become a monster...

While a few issues remain, Lost Judgment improves on its predecessor in almost every way and is a must-play for fans of the Yakuza series.

Lost Judgment on PC brings one of Sega's best games in recent years to Steam in an excellent conversion that plays great even on Steam Deck. While it should've included all DLC from the get go with its asking price, this is an essential if you skipped the console version or if you want to experience it again on the go.

Lost Judgment is an excellent sequel, characterized by a truly fascinating story, full of very well-drawn characters and packed with two maps that offer a huge amount of side activities and side quests. The PC version is very well optimized and runs great.

It hardly innovates at all, but Lost Judgment is still a very fun and addictive Yakuza-style game that can keep you busy for hours.

Takayuki Yagami and his assistant Kato look even better on a PC porting that promises tens of hours of investigations, fightings and mysteries. But aside from higher graphic detail, it's the same game we reviewed last year, hence the same score.

The balancing act RGG plays with its titles is a tricky tightrope to walk, and they usually knock it out of the park. That they failed to do so here is just disappointing. Nonetheless, the fact that this game came to Steam might—might—mean we can see more titles in the future, and there’s a lot of potential here. If they can build a more compelling mystery, be more thoughtful about the serious issues they want to address, and fix the detective elements, they might be onto something special here. Most people seem to think they already are. Maybe next time, I can too.
