A very good Mad Max game, with some excellent bits but also some issues. The setting is great, car combat is incredibly fun - there's a good sense of freedom and the main missions are pretty good, but the story is quite flat (even though the ending is great), the fighting system is nothing more than decent and the optional stuff becomes pretty repetitive.

Mad Max successfully blends well-known and popular elements from other games. Post-apocalyptic world is very well presented and driving behind the Magnus Opus' wheel is so engrossing that the latest work from Avalanche is definitely worth your time, even if one needs to turn a blind eye to few shortcomings.

In the end, Mad Max’s ability to create a good time far outweighs any problems it has.

It captures the charm of the outstanding original, and should satisfy fans of the original. However, it is also monotonous, tough and a little unimaginative.

Is it a bad game? Absolutely not. On the contrary, Ubisoft's open-world template is perfect for churning out market-friendly games that tick all the boxes of "What People Want." Or, perhaps, "What You Want."...And honestly, Mad Max's formula is still to some extent "What I Want." Just not as much as a few years ago.

The formula wears off quickly but the fans of the movie will have their Mad Max fix.
  7. The type which does not present a novelty for open world Mad Max. Repetitive missions. Is it fun to collect scrap metal?

This mad max game besides being beautufl graphically is so much fun, there is so much stuff to do in the game. My one little grip is that you cannot collect scrap metal by driving over it Expand

mad max is one of the few great movie tie in games and yes this is apart of mad max cannon as iv heard, NOT that it needs or wants to be butmad max is one of the few great movie tie in games and yes this is apart of mad max cannon as iv heard, NOT that it needs or wants to be but thats ok because its a very good game on its own cannon status be damned.

Story: you're max and your car gets stolen thats how it starts. and from there max wanders the wastes until he find a a dog and that dog leads him to a crippled hunchback named chum bucket who makes cars and thinks you are some kind of savior. i like chum bucket i thought he was gonna be an annoying companion at first but often times hes a voice of reason to maxs more rough and violent nature and is a much more usefull companion than most in video games , mainly because he sticks to the car and dosen't have a health bar or his health bar is the cars. the rest of the story dosent really matter because it feels like filler this whole story feels like a filler arc of naruto a well writen filler arc of naruto ( like The POWER arc) as much as i liked chum bucket and how well designed the other characters are its really not that important to the franchise and that was something that bothered me. the ending is terrible and the reason for most of my gripes actually its half the reason this game feels unimportant and bogs down the story.
    Story 5/10

World building: the story never added anything to the franchise but this games world building did. although its style and world are mostly based off of fury road , this game is a "prequel" to the movie (not that it matters) mad max's world is like an episodic tv show with no over arcing plot with the exception of the first movie. BUT in this game they dive more into how the Apocalypse has affected humanity with the treasures relics of the old world , and how you can eat maggots out of a dead body for health , water is only obtainable it small amounts from the air or the occasional time it rains. Witch begs the question , what happens to the world ? where did all the water go ? , as of right now the only mad max media i haven't consumed that i know of is beyond thunder dome and i desperately think that movie isn't going to answer my questions BUT the fact that iv watched all the other movies and the game is the one that makes me question its world like this tells me that the game is doing something right.
    World building 8/10

Graphics: i was actually quite impressed with how well this game looks its dusty its rugged and the visual style is close to fury road. max himself seems to be a good mix of hardy's max and a young mel gibson and this makes max feel different but the same at the same time but in a good way. not only is the style good its technically good , the partical effects, the animations and especially the character designs all make up a beautifully looking game
    Graphics: 9/10

Game play: ok now the real meat of the game , ITS FUN the combat is a slower paced version or arhkam asylum's with more brutal take downs and executions with the added shotgun. the camps are varied and no location feels like the last , camps can be any where, sides of cliffs , on top of oil rigs , an armored compound or an underground tunnel. all with vastly different loot and reasons to take them on. the driving feels good and car combat is probably the best iv seen in a game thus far everything just works. there are a few tedious side objectives like the scare crows but they are usually easy enough to take down and don't take much of your time so that's a minor gripe BUT the mine fields are just obnoxious because you need a specific vehicle to deal witht hem (the buggy witch you get fairly early on) all this really dose is make it so you pretty much have to do everything else before you get to them so you are not a sitting duck in that buggy. if you could pick up scrap metal by walking over it instead of pressing A or X or E what every controller/keyboard you are using that would be nice to because of how important scrap is to upgrade both you and your car.
    Gameplay: 9/10

sound design: voice acting is really good , chum buckets voice actor gives a great performance max sounds good more like hardy than mel. and the sound effects ar incredible , punches feel bone shattering , guns have weight because of how few their are and the cars just sounds like heaven. my one problem with the sound is the music is there even any ? a little bit of battle music but the great sound effects always over powers it and music is like a 3rd of the sound design.
    Sound design :7.5/10

    5+8+9+9+7.5=38.5
    38.5/5=7.7/10

Mad max is a really good and fun game that has a few glaring and minor flaws upon replaying this game i can tell you its replay value is pretty poor but if its a new game to you and you liked shaddow or morrador or the arkham games its easily recommendable

I completely understand why it didn't review particularly well. There are some gripes to be had with this game for sure, however I do thinkI completely understand why it didn't review particularly well. There are some gripes to be had with this game for sure, however I do think that it was perhaps slightly underrated in some circles.

If you are the type of player that hammers through a game's storyline then there will be much that you will miss in this game. It will not be for everyone and the gameplay loop has a few issues in terms of pacing and repetitiveness but overall there is a lot of fun to be had. The main issue for me in terms of pacing was that I tend to play games like this a certain way...build up, build up, build up focusing on developing character skills and the means of developing a solid steady income. The problem (if it is one) is that in this game I was at maximum skill level and abilities before leaving the first part of the game. There were lots of vehicles and parts to still unlock but combat-wise, by ignoring the story and building up and completing tons and tons of side missions, salvage locations, encounters and liberating camps and territories, Max was as strong as he was going to get way before reaching the more challenging stuff in the second part.

The open world itself is often spectacular. The design of the camps and many, many of the scavenger locations dotted around the map are incredibly varied although the gameplay involved in taking them over or looting them is less so. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if the game were smaller in scale but there are so many of these locations that some will undoubtedly find them boring at some point.

Driving and car combat is decent. Melee combat can be perhaps slightly more nuanced than mashing counter and attack...although that will get you through the majority of encounters. Yet as Max gains skills and abilities there is a bit more to the combat and fights can result in some pretty satisfying beat downs. However, boss fights are pretty much all the same...get some distance, wait for boss to charge, dodge roll, attack, hit with whatever that boss is weak against, dodge...runaway again and repeat. Every boss can be beaten this way and the only variety later in the game is that some bosses call in a few handfuls of minions to try spice up proceedings a little.

People complain about the story, and I have to wonder if they have seen a Mad Max film because none of them are particularly noteworthy for their narrative. The game starts slow story wise, but by the end you get the Max you are expecting. Having said all that, I enjoyed it quite a bit and definitely got my money's worth out of it. If it had been slightly smaller in scope and slightly more varied and had one or two other minor niggles polished out I might have even gone a bit more than an 8...as it is it's pretty solid at what it does and worth a look if you pick it up on offer.

When one of the most crazy racing games I ever played meet a wrestling game (Batman series style) you get Mad Max.

Awesome graphics, very interesting gameplay mechanics both while racing and while fighting. But the story did not captivate me and, at some point, I found it a little boring and stopped playing.

But like it or not I see me from time to time coming back to the game, just to race around a bit and cause destruction.

I recommend it! It portrays very well the universe Mad Max from the movies.

I can't get over how f*cking r*tarded the story in this game is. Throughout the entire game Max came off as nothing more than a d*mbassI can't get over how f*cking r*tarded the story in this game is. Throughout the entire game Max came off as nothing more than a d*mbass selfish *sshole taking one moronic bad decision after the other. One moment Max is treating this woman with indifference and abandoning her and her child to fate, the other one he is going insane with anger and hatred because they were killed. The best and most likeable character in the entire game is constantly bullied by Max and dies in a pointless and contrived way due to yet another stup*d action by Max that you as a player can't do anything to stop. And to crown this whole imbec*lity, the entire story depends on the fact that the antagonist was able to survive his brain being literally sawed in half with a chainsaw. I could eat a dictionary and still sh*t out a better script than what the id*ots who wrote this cr*p came up with.

The gameplay is tolerable at best, but extremely repetitive and padded out. This entire game felt like a massive waste of my time.
