Medieval Dynasty is a survival RPG that manages to stand out in the oversaturated market that it occupies. By combining ideas from several other popular franchises, developer Render Cube has managed to create a genuinely unique product. Its story hardly stacks up against AAA RPGs like The Elder Scrolls but it's good enough given the game's many other strengths.

Medieval Dynasty is a gorgeous survival/crafting and town management adventure game that satisfies our primal urge to create, build and form a community. After spending a year in early access, the ‘full release’ definitely has a solid foundation, but some mechanics could have used a bit more time in the oven. If you’re prepared for a long term investment, you’ll reap a fantastic reward.

Medieval Dynasty delivers a nice blend of survival sim and economy game with a story layer behind it. The only thing that’s lacking is social aspect: Stardew Valley proved how important are neighbors for a farming game, but in Medieval Dynasty they’re just puppets with some basic needs and no actual character. Medieval Dynasty is a motivating medieval city builder from the first person perspective, in which players have many things to do. The world, however, just doesn't feel alive.

Medieval dynasty is a fun, relaxing survival RPG, even if it's not always exciting.

If you have a lot of free time (50-60 hours seem like a reasonable minimum) and are in no hurry, if you enjoy very complex, immersive games, if you’re willing to overlook numerous bugs and glitches and don’t mind a bland story – Medieval Dynasty is for you. Even though the constant backtracking might be a pain, I personally found the game’s slow pace relaxing rather than annoying and enjoyed my time with it. Plus there are a lot of options that let you simplify the experience and lower the difficulty level, so you don’t need to be a hardcore survival games fan to have fun with Medieval Dynasty. Medieval Dynasty feels unfinished in many ways. Yes, it looks amazing and does a great job bringing the middle ages to life. The negatives overshadow the positives, however. The story is missing synchronization and traveling the vast distances between villages is exhausting because of missing fast travel points. There are many more things that really frustrated us. If you are not in for the interesting setting, there’s really not that much here to have fun with.

How can I say how much I love this game? I've passed at least 280 hours only on early access. First of all, the aspect I love the most about this game is that you're in no hurry. You can do whatever you want at your pace. Building a village is so pleasant, can't wait for deco and windmill. Expand

It is calm and relaxing, some people call it a zen-like experience and this describes it pretty well. The pace is ok from the start, some things feel like achievements (when your trap finally works etc.). The game unfolds after a few hours when you grow your village bit by bit, when new people move in, when you try to find your wife, when you try to coordinate everything.

It is not a deep simulation, as it packs many aspects in the game, like some survival elements, some roleplay elements, some adventure parts, it’s a hydra. It has many heads.

Graphically the game is stunning, it has no major issues. Small bugs here and there, but nothing really serious. One of the unexpected gaming highlights.

Recommended if you like slow paced games, a bit of grind. Not recommended if you like action every two minutes.

The game really promises great potential. But a walking simulation, you want to buy a horse? When you learn how to get it, you will quit the game.

The store pages let you know that you live in a harsh medieval world where you need to "defend your settlement from bandits." A line you canThe store pages let you know that you live in a harsh medieval world where you need to "defend your settlement from bandits." A line you can find one minute into one of the videos. However that isn't in the game. Bandits stay static on the map and do not come and attack your village. There is nothing wrong with that as they also claim "there is peace here..."

So which is it? Harsh medieval world or peace? Pick one and don't mislead customers. The survival aspect of the game is a joke. You are forced into working around a season mechanic that teleports you home after each season. No matter if you were just about to get to the place you wanted to be or not. If it is the end of the season you are going home. This just feels odd in a survival game.

Further it is an exploit. You can simply mine until you can't walk and then be magically be teleported home. Who needs inventory management? Just load up and port home. Winter too hard for you (it isn't)? No problem just sleep through it. You don't need to prepare anything for it.

At the end of a season you also get a full health bar and food meter. Yeah this isn't a survival game as you can't die from these aspects unless you are just standing AFK.

This is an early access game sold as finished product. It is grindy. It is unbalanced. It is not fun.
