Merchant Prince II literally is "Merchant Prince" circa 1993 with a few new game options, slightly updated visuals, and programmed with Windows rather than DOS in mind.
The problem with sequels in this day of technology is that you expect the game to be even more tech friendly than the last and this one has not used the technology to its zenith.
Sounds interesting, and at times it is, but the game often lacks the immediacy to draw players into the Merchant Prince II universe.
The flawed interface, pathetic artificial intelligence, and extremely dated graphics are bound to frustrate strategy gamers accustomed to games that are both challenging and polished.
Fans might—or should—expect something more than a six year old DOS to Windows port with a few extras.
The graphics are wretched, the interface is a mess, and the few rare excuses for new features feel like half-baked afterthoughts. This is one of the ugliest games I've seen in the last several years.

Summary This turn-based strategy game focusing on the development of Venice and the establishment of Venitian commercial trade routes is really the third quite similar incarnation of the original "Merchant Prince" which debuted in 1993 (yes, 1993) and which reared it's head again in 1995 as "Machiavelli."
