  • Summary: Step into the role of Daniel Hanson, commander of the first mission to a remote planet called Meridian. Assured of the fact that the planet is uninhabited, the unexpected reception of a distress call from the surface could mean many things, none of which you are prepared for.

Meridian: New World is a classic strategy game. It lacks in variety, but remains fun and effective. Too bad that the visuals have not been worked more.

Indisputable evidence of Ed’s hard work is the appearance of the game: nice graphics with a decent development of the landscape and models and simple but functional interface. However, we doubt that a handful of Meridian nice features will attract anyone but the most devoted fans of game design of the early nineties. [Nov 2014, p.100]

Meridian: New World feels like a game that has fallen out of early access far too early.

Boring and poorly programmed real-time strategy lacks even the very basics to be at least average game. The lack of multiplayer in combination with enjoyable stupid AI and poor content condemns Meridian: New World for immediate oblivion.

And because it is indie,i give it 10/10.
Story looks interesting - you can influence the direction of the story, you can talk with your crew.
I'm having fun with the game and it is most important.

Visuals:Like i said, ok to good.No complaints here, the art design is ok too.The short cutscenes are ok, not well made but watcheable. The colores are bright, depends on you if this is a pro or a con.Youll always recognize your units.Between the missions the visuals are not that great. You can walk around on your ship, that part looks crappy and far too dark.Too bad, but for the price its still ok.

Sound:The voiceacting is ok.Some actors are better, seen worse.Of course, the units say something when you click on them. These short voiceovers suck. The fighters for example.Sometimes i cant understand them.Could be better, but its a minor complain. The music is ok.In the menu its realy great, in missions its not that good but that might be my taste.

Gameplay:This is the area where if thought i would find strongpoints. But in the end, this is the weakest part in the game. Why?Die Pathfinding is horrible, the AI too. Most of the missions are really boring.Youll have to fight off waves of enemys in a tower defense section for example.Good idea but poorly implemented. You, as the command, got skills. You can heal your units for example.Problem is, the units move so fast and hover over the field that youll miss with many skills. This is espacially problematic with airunits.Sometimes youll miss the spot of the unit you want to heal. The skill will heal the wrong unit.In some missions the skills are important.Youll need to fill up the skill-o-meter to use the skills in battle.Youll need to invest more time in some missions than you need to because of that. Not a great design decision.

Conclusion:Is this game any good?YES IT IS!Right now its on sale for 7,49€. thats a bargain if you love old school RTS games. But i think for me the game is just interesting because of the story. The missions itself are boring, C+C style. Not enough to keep me interested. If you love the old C+C games you can add 2-3 points. For me its a solid 5 because of the cons ive mentioned.

+Concept of game-play is simple and easy to approach
+Developers seem dedicated to the game, providing updates
    +Interesting story

    Cons:
-The pathing in the game is atrocious. Your units may not walk the way you intended.
    -Unpleasant voice acting in-game
-Units in an army do not match speeds (more of a preference)
-In-game animations do not seem detailed enough

Overall, I didn't really have a satisfying time. Although they did a great job focusing on the visual and audio aspect out-of-game (menus, loading, cut-scenes), they seem to have left the actual game-play untouched. However, given my brief research of the developers, they seem friendly enough, and they are working on a sequel. Hopefully the sequel will be able to create a game that won't make me pull my hair out over one horrible stealth mission experience? Or maybe I'm just spoiled from playing AAA games all the time, who knows.
