Good, clean fun. A solid concept, great execution and a ton of reasons to play again and again mean that this is a title that no PS2 owner could easily pass up.
The graphics aren't much either, but the tracks are well designed and there's a genuine sense of fun here. [Aug 2006, p.85]

Micro Machines V4’s only genuine problem is its overbearing similarity to "Mashed," a game that can be bought for a third of the price. [Aug 2006, p.120]
Micro Machines V4 is a worthy part of a traditionally sublime racing series, but its appeal mostly lies with the party gamer set. And sometimes that's enough.
It's a fab little game that's as unpretentious as they come and it's good to have it back - it's just a shame that the concept hasn't really moved on to any degree in the intervening years.
A game that can be somewhat fun in multiplayer, boring in single player, and for the money, you can buy numerous superior titles that will keep your attention far longer than this game will.
