For a game with such a heavy emphasis on medieval combat, Mount & Blade is just shy of perfection.

A Medieval action RPG with a great battle system, and there are many ways you can play the game. The game doesn't have a storyline, which is why it becomes a bit boring and pointless after a while, but it does have many good mods and they will keep the game fresh. [Sept 2008]

Medieval warfare just got even trendier and, despite several major deficiencies, Mount & Blade has just too many memorable moments of glory to ignore; the price tag is worth it for the sunsets alone.
  4. Considering its lackluster visuals, Mount and Blade is suprisingly addictive. The combination of exhilarating mounted combat and an open sandbox world will keep players coming back for more.
  5. Mount & Blade's strong RPG elements, in-depth army management aspects, and amazingly addictive combat system balance out its mediocre quests and half-baked sandbox gameplay.

A decent ride until you get off. [Dec 2008, p.72]
  7. The most exciting feature is the mounted battle, because it is demanding and fast. Release the mouse button at the right moment to hit an enemy. If you ride faster, you will do more damage.

The roleplaying and combat aspects of it are way better than any of the critics give it credit because they critique the beta version. In an ingenious and still morally positive marketing scheme they sold it cheaper as a beta with the promise of free updates. I bought this game at 12 dollars and now I am rewarded with a complete game that allows me to play as a medieval type fighter in an extremely fun environment. Pay no attention to these old reviews. If you missed out on mount and blade when it first started it isn't too late. If you got it a long time ago and haven't returned, you should. A lot has changed. Expand

The only reason that i didntI really love this game, its got great combat systems. also I love owning your own cities and armies, its great. The only reason that i didnt give this game a 10 is that I dont have fun playing as anyone but a commander, i find everything else boring. but commanding is great, you can really affect the way things turn out in the big picture. And when it comes to graphics, they are adequate, but graphics dont matter as much as gameplayy Expand

Battles with mounted soldiers can be severely annoying and makes you want to turn the game off. One annoying combat bug. Nice RPG aspects. Although a novelty game, its distributed long enough to keep you entertained long enough. Patience is required. Some system bugs (ex. occasionally crashes on exit). Supposedly there are a lot of good mods. Expand

The developers of this game seem to think that making a game is simply to create a simple engine without deep thoughts into the details which are so important. Ever seen horsemen climb steep rocky mountain terrain before? Here you will. Ever seen how developers get lazy at listening to your own ideas of a game you'd want to play and slack off when releasing an unfinished game? Here you will. If you never played a single game in your life, you might like this game because you have zero experience in game. If you've been a gamer for most of your life, you'll find that Mount and Blade just plain sucks. It does not deliver what it promises. Expand
