Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is an exceptional take on the tactical RPG and the addition of a stealth system certainly sets it apart from the crowd. Both genres blend together in a way that’s satisfying, challenging and well designed, while an engaging and well-written narrative drives the player forward. The difficulty might be an issue for those new to the genre, but for those seasoned in turn-based tactics, this is an absolute must buy.

With its interesting world and characters and excellent gameplay mechanics which advance the genre with the introduction of stealth and seamless exploration, Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden is one of the best turn-based tactical games released in recent years. The story may have received a better focus, and the combat may have been a little less frustrating, but don't let these small issues block you from getting the game if you're a fan of the genre, as Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden is well worth your time and money.

Quite difficult turn based strategy battles in a densely narrated and graphically great looking post-apocalypse with fascinating animal heroes.

Mutant Year Zero is a splendid romp through an apocalyptic world in which tactical stealth battles are the meat of the experience served with a deep, fascinating and carefully crafted world, inhabited by funny and interesting characters.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden is a good time and deserves to be checked out by fans of the genre. It isn’t something most will be able to jump right into with immediate success, but it’s a game that has a lot to offer for those willing to take the time to learn its ins and outs.

From a gameplay perspective, Mutant Year Zero is a bold but brief experiment in the turn-based genre that largely pays off. Despite my complaints, I still enjoyed it, and I’d love to see more from the franchise. If you can stomach a huge letdown of an ending, the cleverly orchestrated combat and unique world are worth checking out.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden feels entirely spread too thin. Without much depth to its name, it remains a unique setting devoid of personality.

Nothing special, but I liked it. The game is a little short, as for me. I love this genre, it’s a pity that worthless games rarely come out.

I originally started playing it on Very Hard (suggested experience) using the cover system, but I soon figured out ... this is not the way you can beat the game. Medikits are VERY scarce in the beginning and with enemies easily bringing your characters to under 20% HP in one attack that doesn't work out.
After watching someone on YouTube playing it ... where he showed off how to first pick the patrolling enemies, sneaking in and then ambushing those basically killing them in one round and/or crowd control them so they have no chance in even getting one attack off ... that's how i played.

Which brings me to around 10 hours playtime, might be more as the game doesn't record that stat. I got the 4th Group Member ... but i am bored by the game already.
The whole game revolves around you running around in the stages, trying to find scraps, chests with items, patrolling enemies and scouting where stationary enemies stand. Once you have a oversight of the situation, you then can cook up a plan how to deal with it.

This means that 95% of the time you play you sneak around with your flashlight off, where you can hide and let enemies walk right past you ... they won't see you hiding ... just to move your 3 characters into a favorable position and then try to ambush them, making silent weapons the hot thing and non-silent weapons trash. And if your plan doesn't work out you reload.
This is just not that fun for even the paltry 15 hours this game is long.

I prefer games like Warsong/Langrisser, Shining Force, Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, Silent Storm, Fallout Tactics, Xcom ... where the *main* gameplay lies within the strategy of the *combat* ... and not so much in searching the big areas for items and opportunities to Ambush.
