MX vs ATV Legends is a great game, there’s no doubt about it, but on the other hand, it’s pretty clear that it can’t be considered a finished title at this point. In some ways, it feels like a work-in-progress, though most of the time, it can still provide the challenging experience that it promises regardless of the platform. The addition of an open environment is hands down the best idea, as it provides the off-road adventure with a new side that’s more or less based on exploration. At the same time, it feels like it generates a high replayability level, and at the end of the day, this is what helps keep a game alive a long time after its launch.
If you enjoy off-road racing, you can do much worse than MX vs ATV Legends. It’s certainly the best the series has been in some years, and looks better than ever thanks to being on PS5 for the first time. There’s a wide range of gameplay options available, and being able to wrangle with one of three vehicle types means you’re unlikely to get bored very quickly. The AI and balancing could do with a bit of tweaking, but it’s not enough to ruin the experience.
Released with audio bugs and some graphic issues. As you progress through the game and tune the bikes or atv's it gets better. The soundtrack and tracks are really good and I enjoy the game.
Compared to the disastrous MX vs ATV: All Out, Rainbow Studios has taken not one but two steps forward. MX vs ATV Legends is surprisingly fun and has a good amount of content. At present, however, it needs a substantial finishing work. ATVs are capable of giving great satisfaction, while AI steals more than a laugh with its surreal performances. The Rainbow Studios game is plagued by bugs and various problems but has big room for improvement: if the development team manages to fix all the flaws in the coming months, MX vs ATV Legends could become a good title.
MX vs ATV Legends could have been a decent arcade-style, sim-lite racer. Whatever appeal could be found in mastering jumps and customizing vehicles is beset by numerous issues. It's not grossly offensive but you're better off investing time in just about any other racer.
If there’s one bright spot, it’s the new “trails” game mode, a checkpoint-type race that has more varied terrain. It’s quite fun, and very chaotic, serving as the high point amid innumerable lows. And that about sums MX vs. ATV Legends up: at its core, this is a buggy, flawed mess that falls far short of other racers on the market.
Quick background on me the reviewer, I tend to like single player games that are heavy on narrative the most. I also play a lot of racing games , and I use to play multiplayer games back when I was in high school but now that it's hard for me and my friends to find a good time to link up. Up to try any genre of games and sometimes I find something new that I didn't think I'd like. I own a PC (built by me), Xbox, PlayStation and a Switch. I prefer PlayStation due to their focus on narrative games and my long history of trophy collecting. For scoring, I’ll be using the GameInformer review scale and of course influenced by my personal opinions.
(6) Limited Appeal. Although there may be fans of games receiving this score, many will be left yearning for a more rewarding game experience.
It's been awhile since I have tried a game like this. I use to enjoy ATV Offroad Fury 1 and 2 on the PlayStation 2 and been randomly thinking about replaying them. I ended up doing some research to see if the series is still going and bought the newest one to give it a shot. There are two things about this game that I really don't like. The first is the physics; no matter what series you pick the vehicles feels very floaty like your not connected to the ground. The second is the controls for how you balance the vehicle weight for jumps; you have to use a bunch more buttons for what use to be shared with your steering joystick. The older way was a lot more simplified and felt more natural then trying to hold onto other buttons while also trying steer. Since both of these issues are the foundation of the game, I didn't want to spend a lot of time with this game. Before I stopped playing I did notice some good things though. The free roam environments and all the different tracks are well done. I also like how roots form from where you or the AI drives, although how deep they form from one pass is probably very overdone and drastically changes the track after one lap. I like how the career mode builds up your hub area as you progress and how much variety of racetracks there are in the story where you hardly do the same layout. I didn't experience any bugs (Sep 2023). I could see the potential of this game, they just have to work on the physics.
Good-
Tracks are decently designed and offer a variety of different obstacles. The environmental variety is ok. When they work, the controls and physics accomplish that high-precision racing ideal. Long career mode. Trails is a nice new mode.
Bad-
Controls feel unintuitive at times. Wonky physics and messy AI lead to a bad experience. Poor texture quality, animations and pop-ins mar the presentation. Career mode's story is forgettable and the racing gets boring. Limited tuning and customization. Bugs and a lot of progress halting crashes.
Thoughts-
Despite all of this, I really hesitate to call MX vs ATV Legends an outright disaster. It’s not great, by a long shot, and yet, it’s sort of enjoyable at certain points, in certain instances, in small doses. If you’re looking for an in-depth Career Mode, an extensive open-world to explore or compelling Motocross gameplay, then you’re better off looking elsewhere. Even with the lowest expectations, MX vs. ATV Legends barely passes muster.
Good game but the sound quality and burst of static that still has yet to be fixed is ridiculous. It’s blowing my speakers seriously please the developers need to fix this problem
The old MX vs ATV games used to be arcade style and fun. Unfortunately this game tries to be both arcade and realistic at the same time and fails in both. Firstly, it’s annoyingly difficult due to the ai. Even very easy is not fun. There is only one free roam location without buying more with actual money. Given a 2 because the riding around in free roam is fun, but absolutely not worth it for just that. The one free roam location they give you is tiny compared to the old games.
Simply put, don’t bother!
Love the franchise and this one looks great. Problem I have is only 6 tracks on the disc. Everything else is a download. Should at least mention that on the box. I want my physical media and am not interested in paying for a disc that has nothing on it.
