While not creating anything new, per se, Ubisoft has taken the venerable Adventure Game and, once again, raised it to a new height.
One must appreciate the nuances of such a game. This is a perfect alternative to curling up with a good book on a stormy night - although the storm could last for weeks.
Revelation is an excellent, but very difficult game, unfortunately the gamer that would fully appreciate it is, I am afraid, almost extinct. But, if you've passed a course or two in anger management and are not afraid to travel the ages of Tomahna, Spire, Haven, and Serenia with nothing more than a mouse and your functioning gray matter, you are sure to enjoy Revelation and the search for the prodigal sons of Atrus.
The game features some of most stunning scenery yet seen in a video game, and Jack Wall’s ethereal musical accompaniment captures the feeling of the game’s artistic landscape.
Everything in the game remains true to the source material, and Revelation is the best Myst sequel yet released.
For better or worse, my sensibilities have changed with the times, and likely, so have yours. But if you’re the type to obsess over increasingly difficult crossword puzzles, Myst IV: Revelation is more than a nod to history - it’s your future.
