   I think it's the best racing game lately. Graphics are outstanding including flashes, blur and mirror like effect. All of that combined I think it's the best racing game lately.    Underground revolutionised Need for Speed for what the franchise is today. Tuners, customisations, bodykits, vinyls and the ability to upgradeUnderground revolutionised Need for Speed for what the franchise is today. Tuners, customisations, bodykits, vinyls and the ability to upgrade the performance on your car are all features that stemmed from Underground. It's a completely different game in comparison to Hot Pursuit 2 that came out a year later and the new change to tuner racing rather than driving in stock cars is a change to be praised as it allowed Need for Speed to become the iconic and recoginsed franchise it is today. This is why Underground is looked back upon in a good light and even in its hayday recieved positive reviews from users and critics. For 2003, the graphics still look great, the player is introduced into the first story mode implemented into the game, despite it being lackluster and the cutscenes are cheesy CGI rendered models that don't really have much signifiance on the story.
   
   The whole idea of starting out in a stock car and then building your way up by upgrading your car's performance and visuals whilst climbing up the ranks to take the number 1 spot in the Underground, was really really fun and I enjoyed building upon cars that I owned such as the MX-5 and RX-7 and makes your more attached and proud of yourself when you win races in a car that you've created. The difficulty progression starts of easy but as you get closer to the end of the game, no matter what difficulty you play on, the AI get increasingly difficult. It gets to the point that AI start becoming incredibly annoying with their rubberbanding that allows them to take corners that aren't possible to be taken the same way as they can as well as them getting an incredible boost after crashing into a wall. The physics when crashing into a traffic car or a wall is another thing that I really hated about this game. It would send your car flying 10,000 feet into the air doing somersaults, and when that happens when you're on the last lap of a 7-lap event, really is demoralising and makes it somewhat comparable to the awful damage physics of NFS 2.
   
   However, these 3 features that are annoying and can ruin the experience at times shouldn't drag down how great this game is and the times I really enjoyed racing through the events. When I get hooked and manage to complete a huge chunk of the game in 1 day and makes me want to go back to it to carry on playing, really says a lot. If you're new to the Need for Speed series and want to play through the franchise, ignore all games before this game and start here. This game is worth playing and with the necessary fixes that are needed to make this game run on modern machines, can make time worth spent.… Expand
