"Overall, Nier: Automata is a phenomenal game filled with great gameplay, world building, amazing storytelling, and it even poses some interesting questions. There’s so much to love about this game and it has spawned dozens of think pieces from various websites on the topics posed in the game. I truly believe Nier: Automata is easily an early Game of the Year contender for 2017. If you own a PlayStation 4 or have a Windows machine capable of running it, you have to give this game a try." ... Read full review

"In the end, NieR: Automata reflects what’s in your heart, and it’s possibly the most playable introduction to the glorious madness of Yoko Taro there is. Whether that’s worth something to you I couldn’t possibly say, but it’s left quite a mark on me." ... Read full review

"NieR: Automata contains twenty-six different endings, which inevitably incentivizes those who want to see all possible conclusions. But, the apparent lack of story, which drops off for a good while after the introductory level, is stinging, and you must have enough commitment to see past this. The combat is unique and, at times, refreshingly variegated gaming styles emerge from NeiR — from hack-and-slash to arcade-esque air fights — but enemies themselves show little variation and predictable movement. If you are looking for a hack-and-slash with extraordinary graphics and a fair amount of character customization, then it is likely you’ll enjoy playing this release." ... Read full review

The performance is stable, with no frame rate drops below 40 on heavier action scenes,
Great port, kudos to platinum.
The full screen bug is there, hope it gets fixed soon. Temporary fix will be to use Borderless Gaming App.

An intense hack-and-slash action RPG which plays like an open-world version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance while also incorporatingAn intense hack-and-slash action RPG which plays like an open-world version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance while also incorporating gameplay from other types of games to give you a one-of-a-kind experience.

Although the open-world aspect of the game is somewhat shallow relative to the rest of the game, the side quests and the enormous map will have you exploring for hours upon hours. Too much can be said about this game, and it would be difficult to describe each aspect in full. It's a new game that tries to stand out from other action RPGs and comes with a beautiful female protagonist to start with.

There are five main endings and 21 secret endings in this game for you to uncover, and you must play the game from start to end at least three times to unlock them all. Each of these three iterations are different because they're based on the perspectives of the three main characters shown on the cover art (2B, 9S, and A2). They each have their own storylines, and chronologically, 2B and 9S happen at the same time, while A2 is like an epilogue (a sequel to the game itself).

You are allowed to change the difficulty at any time during the game. However, if you go beyond Normal, your Pod (a flying robot that helps you dish out some damage) becomes virtually useless and the game becomes more stressful. The game even states that Normal is recommended to get the full experience. If you're a casual player who plays games for story, I highly suggest just sticking to Normal, because it is the most balanced difficulty.

Since the game is a port, the keyboard and mouse controls aren't very friendly to use. The game has many commands that don't work well on them, so I strongly suggest playing with a controller.

When you first start off, you are given a really lengthy mission that is arguably the hardest mission in the game for most players and is akin to playing against the first boss in the first Dark Souls. If you die, you're forced to start over all again from the beginning. I don't really understand why this was included in the game, because the rest of the game is not as difficult and allows you to save often.

At death, you "lose" all of your character's upgrade chips, but you are given a chance to head back and recover them (as long as you don't die again) similar to Dark Souls.

A major balancing issue occurs when you play as 9S in the second iteration. 9S has the ability to hack enemies, so when you do, the game initiates a 2D shoot'em up mini-game that is easy (especially on keyboard) and also incredibly tedious. If you constantly win, you can easily speed your way through the game, even against extremely high level enemies.

Another major balancing issue occurs when you stack up a ton of healing chips, which makes you tanky and virtually invincible.

Overall, the game deserves a thorough play to experience all that it has to offer. It's not the most refined diamond out there, but it will easily provide you with dozens of hours of entertainment that you won't regret spending.

I haven't once felt that the game was a grind, and I've sank dozens of hours into it without any hesitation. Each playthrough lasts around 15-20 hours (including side quests), which means that you'll get around 60 hours of play time once you're done with the three main iterations.

Honest review from a guy who loves challenging games, loves japanese made games and loved to death Bayonetta and it's battle systemHonest review from a guy who loves challenging games, loves japanese made games and loved to death Bayonetta and it's battle system

Graphics: 8 Technically the graphics are ps3 but the artwork is amazing and builds excellent atmosphere. The game has performance issues though and the optimization for the pc is bad.Nothing game-breaking but you will get dips below 60 fps even with high end cards while the graphics don't seem so demanding.Artwork>graphics so 8/10 here

Sound: 9 The soundtrack is truly memorable, one of the best i have heard in years in a videogame and it really compliments the mysterious setting of the game. The fx sound of the game is good, could be worse could be better. Not every dialog is voice acted though. It gest a 9 mostly for the amazing soundtrack

Gameplay: 7 Serious balancing issues for the difficulty levels.Very hard=one hit killed. That makes the different enemies irrelevant. Weather u get him by the smallest enemy or from the largest robot it's the same and it kills any purpose of having different enemies and different levels of enemies. In normal u have to try hard to get killed.the camera is bad in this game. You don't have lock on on hard and very hard and i had to move the camera far away from me because u constantly get attacked my mobs and u have to be aware of your surroundings 360 degrees. That creates another problem and that is that u can't really see the animations of the opponents when the are ready to strike. This and the fact that u always get attacked by mobs makes the combat more like hit,hit evade and repeat repetitively without really reacting to whats happening on the battle.Combat can be satisfying but it has these serious problems that truly hold it back from being great and deep.

In conclusion i give it a 7/10 it is a game with fresh ideas, excellent setting and atmosphere, engaging story and there is some fun to be had by the combat but at the same time it is severely flawed in the battle department, difficulty imbalance and performance issues it has.I find it quite good but certainly overestimated and judging by the scores it got and from the fact that it is developed by a company that i absolutely love, i must say i am a little bit disappointed.
