  • Summary: Ori and the Blind Forest is a bit of a genremix – It’s a ‘Metroidvania‘, but with a stronger platforming focus and light RPG elements, all set within an atmospheric world.

This game may be beautiful, but it is also deadly.

An artistic masterclass on virtually every level—it begins perfectly, it ends perfectly, and it delivers a bounty of beautiful, creative platformer goodness in between. It is, perhaps, 2015's first inevitable lock for year-end top ten lists.

Gorgeous art direction, simple but touching story and layers and layers of lovely majestic sound effects, coupled with a kick-ass soundtrack, great old-school platform mechanics.

Challenging and gorgeous, Ori is a classic platforming genre modernized and done strikingly well. Use a controller and save often.

As far as Metroidvania games go, Ori's brilliant visuals, stunning soundtrack and spot-on controls are unparalleled. An amazing achievement.

Playing Ori and the Blind Forest is akin to having a piano lesson — it is fun only when you press exactly the right keys. Get off the mark for just a split second, and the entrancing melody is gone, the tempo is ruined, and all you can hear is the sound of your fingers frantically tapping the keys.

The visuals, the music, the gameplay, the story, everything is so well put together it is plain to see this game was made with LOVE. And yes I mean that, think of all the AC's and CoD's every year, games with no soul because they are a chore to the developers and not what they would LOVE to do... It also has the merit of not holding your hand and offering a really good challenge. Do yourself a favor and buy this game, you will not regret it. Expand

An artwork from beginning to end. The graphics are pretty, the music is beautiful, the controls are precise and tight and the story is moving. Even thought this is an artwork out of the ordinary, this game have a few problems.

The controls for PC (Steam) when you want to use a gamepad, are not possible to customize in game. In order for me to get the controls like they would be on the Xbox 360, I had to use my Logitech Profiler tool (which maps buttons on the gamepad and translate that into a keyboard-keys), and by doing this, the game showed hints in both keyboard and gamepad depending on which button I've used last.

Also the game has bugs where if you get stuck and if you are so unlucky you have saved, the game has to be restarted.

The last issue with this game is the difficulty curve. The game is fairly easy in most parts, except when you've completed one of the main events in the game which fires a sequence where the curve is a bit too steep compared to the rest of the game.

All in all a really good game, except for the three issues mentioned above.
