  • Summary: No remarkable journey is achieved without great effort. Outward is an open-world RPG where the cold of the night or an infected wound can be as dangerous as a predator lurking in the dark. Explore the vast world of Aurai, embark on memorable adventures alone or with your friends.

Outward is harsh and occasionally frustrating, but it does what so few games do. It requires you to put real thought into the choices you make, and it makes those choices feel like they really matter. Most of all, it makes you approach each and every encounter as if your life depended on it—even though you never die.

Outward is a fun and unique experience for those who desire the harder type of gameplay reminiscent of Souls like games.

This is a great choice of old-school RPG fans, with many, many good ideas, and only a few issues preventing it from being something excellent.

It's still a solid playthrough and unique enough to consider worth experiencing -- especially with a friend. The best case scenario is that Outward serves as a successful proof-of-concept that leads to an experience down the road that hits a bullseye where Outward just narrowly missed the mark.

Taken as a whole, Outward practically screams "cult classic." Its consistent challenge, cumbersome combat, and co-op systems won't resonate with everyone. But for a particular type of player—ones that don't mind trading dozens of frustrating moments for open-ended experiences—Nine Dot Studios' RPG is sure to find a dedicated audience. Outward's aspirations are commendable, but just like its protagonist, the end result is just average.

Nine Dots Studio's RPG will appeal to people who love fiddly systems and have enormous patience. But if that isn’t you then it'll simply feel like a time drain.

This game is not for everyone, that's true, but that doesn't make it bad. Its quite good in fact, and many of the design choices are deliberate not an oversight. There are a million ARPGs built just the way the others are, why not let this stellar gem gleam in its own manner? Fantastic title, with a lot of heart! Expand

Oh and its split screen coop! As a 90's gamer this is a dream come true. No transactions, no pay to play. What a refreshing approach in a market flooded with underwhelming £50 AAA games that take 7 hours to finish.

    Awesome game !

The game is all about learning, you start with having trouble against every enemies you encounter, and then you make really enjoyable fights against greater enemies, thanks to your new skills and equipments :D !

There is a huge survival aspect, which is greatly appreciated, granting you penalties or buffs !

You can be the white knight who saves everyone in his path, crushing his evil enemies, or be more "gray" and be mean sometimes (I don't know yet if you can be very mean, I made the white knight man).

Quests can be accomplished in different ways, with different results, but this is not a HUGE part here.

Some people say the graphics are not good, well, they may not be as beautiful as the nowadays AAA games, but they are coherent with the universe, the world, and the gameplay.

I don't put 10/10, because of the few lags, and the choices in quests which, to my mind, do not have as huge an impact on the game as I would like.

For 40€, the game is totally worth it, buy it !

PS : I absolutely want a 4 co-op mode to have huge fun with 3 friends :DDD

died from cold a few feet from the starter town. I've gotten trampled by a pair of roaming thieves and drank some bad water, that I assumedied from cold a few feet from the starter town. I've gotten trampled by a pair of roaming thieves and drank some bad water, that I assume gave my character the squirts. I'm not the Dragonborn, Chosen One, or the Acid Dropping Macaroni Messiah. I'm just a man trying to get to a merchant with all the wares I looted off bodies of the creatures or thieves I bested in order to get some sweet coin.
    I really like that
