  • Summary: No remarkable journey is achieved without great effort. Outward is an open-world RPG where the cold of the night or an infected wound can be as dangerous as a predator lurking in the dark. Explore the vast world of Aurai, embark on memorable adventures alone or with your friends.

Outward is harsh and occasionally frustrating, but it does what so few games do. It requires you to put real thought into the choices you make, and it makes those choices feel like they really matter. Most of all, it makes you approach each and every encounter as if your life depended on it—even though you never die.

Outward is a fun and unique experience for those who desire the harder type of gameplay reminiscent of Souls like games.

This is a great choice of old-school RPG fans, with many, many good ideas, and only a few issues preventing it from being something excellent.

It's still a solid playthrough and unique enough to consider worth experiencing -- especially with a friend. The best case scenario is that Outward serves as a successful proof-of-concept that leads to an experience down the road that hits a bullseye where Outward just narrowly missed the mark.

Taken as a whole, Outward practically screams "cult classic." Its consistent challenge, cumbersome combat, and co-op systems won't resonate with everyone. But for a particular type of player—ones that don't mind trading dozens of frustrating moments for open-ended experiences—Nine Dot Studios' RPG is sure to find a dedicated audience. Outward's aspirations are commendable, but just like its protagonist, the end result is just average.

Nine Dots Studio's RPG will appeal to people who love fiddly systems and have enormous patience. But if that isn’t you then it'll simply feel like a time drain.

Oh and its split screen coop! As a 90's gamer this is a dream come true. No transactions, no pay to play. What a refreshing approach in a market flooded with underwhelming £50 AAA games that take 7 hours to finish.

There is no hand holding, it is quite difficult as well. But the number 1 reason to get this? FRIGGEN SPLITSCREEN COUCH CO-OP Number 2? No buying items in game with real world cash/ no loot boxes. If anything, get this game to play that, have put 3 hours into the co-op mode and it is just about the most fun I have had in years.
It is funny how a game with dated graphics, and made by a team of 10 people invokes the same enjoyment of exploration that only Breath of the Wild was able to do so well.

Awesome game. It's a mix of Dragons Dogma + Monster Hunter + Gothic

From Dragon's Dogma: The general feel of the type of game

From Monster Hunter: The type of progression and activities. There isnt xp or levels, but there is a lot of progression through items, money, recipes and trainers

From Gothic: The nostalgia, the story type, the awesomeness, and yes, also a bit the clunkiness.

The game is hard. But not dark souls hard. It's also hard to know what you are supposed to be doing. It has a steep learning curve, but it is awesome

Un rpg de corte clásico que no agradará a todos pero si a los que busquen un reto como los de antes.

Cons: empty open world, outdated and clunky combat, ton of bugs and bad performance, unbalanced enemies
