Payday 2 is a Co Op game. While it might have benefitted with a cool story arc for a single player mode the game offers a great outing with 3 other friends for an experience that will keep having you come back for more. Payday is simply put the improved, polished and closest experience you’ll find to robbing an actual bank. It’s just legal.

As it stands right now, Payday 2, while it won’t be for everyone, is a lot of fun. Although the stealth mechanics are basic, there’s enough strategic depth and teamwork required so that stealthing missions can be challenging, and extremely satisfying when successful.

If you have some friends to play a shooter with, this is a great choice. It's not perfect, but is bigger and better than the previous one, which means even more fun.

The bottom line is that I’m complaining because the action, the gunplay, the visuals, the demanding teamwork, the ultimate sense of gratification from leveling up and mastering the levels are all pretty much unparalleled, even if they could have been situated into a better gameplay structure. Payday 2 is a wonderful shooter that stands alone in a genre full of me-toos, wanna-bes, and coulda-beens.

Smart co-op shooting slightly undermined by poor stealth mechanics and dogged insistence on withholding the best toys.

The disappointing Payday 2 is a sequel in the loosest sense of the word, with minor and unsuccessful updates to the gameplay, hindered with uninspired scenarios and terrible AI.

    Great Game, Awful Company.

I've always liked Payday 2, so much so that I could recommend it even with Overkill, its greedy husk of a developer, actively tearing it to shreds. First they started oversaturating the DLC tab, then splitting up what WAS one pack into two separately priced packs, then they started strongarming us into buying DLC with new and ridiculous enemies like the SWAT turret van. Nothing, though, can keep me recommending it now.

They're trying to actually introduce skins. Yes, P2W skins that completely unbalance the already crippled checks and balances of the weapons in this game. Do NOT buy this game, nor any game from this disgusting developer. The people who made Overkill good are gone, all that's left are disgusting frauds who are simply in this to steal your cash.

The irony of a game about robbery trying to rob us blind is too much for me to handle. Avoid this, avoid OVERKILL's Walking Dead, avoid any games by this disgusting developer. You've been warned.

I have purchased all but the latest DLC, much at fullUp until Oct. 15, 2015, this was my favorite co-op multiplayer experience of all time. I have purchased all but the latest DLC, much at full price and including packs of weapons I have never used, in support of the developers and the product that has brought me more hours of enjoyment than any item in my library. I have enthusiastically recommended this game countless times to friends and acquaintances, inspiring more than a few purchases. In my professional career, I have pointed to the lack of microtransaction content as a functional business model that respects its audience while providing a constant stream of new gameplay options.

As of Oct. 15, 2015, I can no longer recommend Payday 2. In the weeks leading up to that date, the developers of the game hosted a series of challenges that, when completed, would unlock new updates that would be free to all owners of the product. On that date, the first of a ten day "Crimefest", the feature revealed to have been unlocked was... microtransactions.

After completing a mission in the game, the player has always been awarded with a virtual card that is flipped over to reveal a new modification for a weapon, a cosmetic mask, and other unlocks. With the new "free" update, this reward can be replaced with a "safe" object. The safe contains a weapon skin of varying rarity as well as the possibility of unique weapon modifications. Very rarely, these weapon skins can add a statistics boost to the weapon when applied. These safes can be opened with a special "drill" object. The catch is the drill can ONLY be obtained by payment of $2.50 (and up) on the Steam Marketplace. There is NO method of opening a safe outside of this financial transaction.

As a long time supporter, this is a betrayal too harsh to bear. The game has been uninstalled and I will not be playing, purchasing, or recommending products by OVERKILL or Starbreeze Studios from this date forward. They have lost this once loyal customer and many others with the addition of this "feature".

    TL;DR - Pay-for product contains microtransactions for potentially non-cosmetic rewards - 0/10

I have been playing PayDay 2 for about more than a year. Not obsessed, but I did enjoy it. Over, it was a fun coop heist game.

Now that has changed. Overkill was making more and more shady DLCs and now implemented micro-transactions into the game as part of a free reward. There were promises that this would never happen (check all this for yourself - plenty of stuff on this matter around).

Because of all this, I cannot recommend this game any longer. If you choose to still play this game and support Overkill, keep in mind that they will require more and more $ for each coming DLC (and without those you will feel more and more nerfed).

So I almost feel bad reviewing this game after hours of fun, but if you have come to play this once great game, you need to know somethingSo I almost feel bad reviewing this game after hours of fun, but if you have come to play this once great game, you need to know something very important. Long ago the developer Almir Listo literally said the following "We've made it clear that Payday 2 will have no microtransactions whatsoever (shame on you if you thought otherwise!)" A month later another developer David Goldfarb responded in an even more blunt way "No. No. God, I hope not. Never. No." Two years later they added microtransactions. Even if you don't agree this ruins the game, how can you take the word of the development team seriously if they are straight up willing to ignore their gaming community and go back on everything they said. This on top of almost 100 dollars in DLC and a currently full priced game is inexcusable. If you are reading this and you also feel this is completely unfair, I urge you to stand with us in rating this down to the level it deserves for taking our money for years then demanding more. They flat out lied to us, the people who decide if they make enough money to eat. They should rightfully understand that ignoring us is not the option they should take. Expand
