A game that is lovingly made, with a very interesting crafting system. Unfortunately, due to a lack of goals, purpose or anyone one else playing it has very low playability.
Although a somewhat generic survival sandbox, Planet Explorers certainly had the potential to be a fun game... if only it was a complete one. Those who were here since the days of Early Access will definitely see the improvements, but this still has a long way to go.
Beautiful Sci-fi world game where you can create your own vehicles, houses, swords, shields, aircraft, and character. You follow along a quest-line where you have crashed upon a planet called Maria, and you were an astronaut from Earth. Although the game is still being developed, it is very enjoyable and quite good-looking.
This game has a lot of potential. It is only in alpha, but already has a lot to it. Think Minecraft in a beautiful sci-fi world (mixed with medieval weapons and armor) with a interesting and mysterious story. I've only really played story mode so far, but the story has a nice touch of mystery to it that gives the game a real adventurous feel. Aside from that you can use resources to create weapons, vehicles (ground and air), and structures in an easy to use modeling-esque interface. You actually can build and design all of your own stuff! That is really the highlight of the game so far, and what sets it apart from others in the genre. The voxel terrain is beautiful. There's no leveling yet, so everything is gear based. The progression is pretty solid, I feel like I am discovering new species at a rate that is quick enough to hold my interest, but not so quick that it is overstimulating. I am really excited to see what this game becomes. An hour in I thought, this game is ok. 2-3 hours in, I was amazed, and became very excited for what is to come.
Originally reviewed this as negative. Recently tried it again, it's come a decent way with some decent updates. Has native-controller support finally which is awesome. Game itself I'd probably give a 7/10... maybe higher once I play further into the game.
Downside still is bugged quests, as well as a bit too "hardcore". I know the devs have stated that "easy" is just for those that want a challenge... but "normal" is pretty insane at times. One thing that might help would either have people gather more Shade Weed per pull, or lower the cost of Shade Weed a bit for resurrection shots... because it takes a lot of grinding just to not fully die, which can happen fairly easily. I get the idea is that it's an alien planet with unpredictable wildlife, but there have been so many times I'll get killed 5-10 times just trying to get from one waypoint to the next, just trying to respawn and run again. I get it's not supposed to be too easy, but in a slight way it kind of reminds me a smidge of Dark Souls in that sense. :P
I had mixed feelings about "Planet Explorers" As an avid "Minecraft" player I was excited about the open world gameplay and the crafting system. I must admit that all my PE experience has been in the sandbox option, I didnt deal with any quest or story-related material. As soon as they fix the "clunky" building experience I'm sure that it will be far superior to "Minecraft" in ease and looks. One of the reasons I lost inteerest quickly in PE is because of the option to buy all your materials rather than search and mine for them. I understand that this makes the game easier, but far less satisfying.. I think this game has potential but currently it may not be worth the investment.. its a wait and see
Planet Explorers is a game where the developers asked for backer funding, made a lot of promises, collected $137,765 on kickstarter and then released the game in alpha state. I am not going to write a detailed review on this firstly because the game doesn’t deserve it and also because I am at least $50 poorer because I put my faith in Pathea Games based on all the false kickstarter promises. Well, I have learned my lesson and this ended up being one of several other projects that taught me to never spend money on a game before its full release.
Just know this, Planet Explorers is far from being a complete game. Stay away from its developers.
