I do recommend Popup Dungeon, especially if you like to create content, and especially if you like cheesy humor and gamer references. I am thoroughly impressed by this indie offering and can only hope that the developers continue this trend in the future.

Popup Dungeon has the type of creation tools that will fuel internet insanity for years to come. They're in the same weight class as the WWE 2K series and Soul Calibur, often overshadowing the base game they're bundled with simply due to how easy they are for everyone to use. If players avoid the occasional cringe that punctuates Triple.B.Games' contributions, they'll find a treasure trove of opportunity that can easily suck away the hours.

While it isn't a game for everyone, those who have enjoyed pen and paper RPGs will find the same fun and mayhem in Popup Dungeon. This is what makes this game so special.

Popup Dungeon is a fantastic starter game for newbies to the turn-based strategy genre, and it’s the ultimate playground for those who want complete creative freedom to make their own tabletop adventure. You could play around with the creation tools for hours and almost never skim the surface of what’s possible — the sky is truly the limit here. Though it’s certainly not a game for everyone, it’s one of the most impressive experiences I’ve seen for customization, and a must-have for anyone who wants to create an in-depth D&D campaign.

Popup Dungeon nails the papercraft look, has some endearing and funny writing, and provides an intriguing framework for community-created content. The core of its tabletop-inspired combat system isn’t engaging enough to hold it up alone, ultimately leaving it up to whatever community it attracts to decide whether it’s worth putting your own paper on the table.

Overall Popup Dungeon is a very average game; first launching on Kickstarter April 3rd 2014, it has taken more than 6 years to release but the game and the humour already feels outdated. However Triple.B.Titles have done a great job at creating a papercraft style game and by adding more depth to the combat I could see this game sticking around for a while with the aid of a creative community to take the game to its limits.
